Hi there. Does anyone know if the door glass needs to come out of the drivers door first in order to remove the door lock mechanism. A small metal tab has broken off the mechanism, so I have to remove it to weld it back on. Any input is greatly received. Thanks.

I think you can do it without pulling the mechanism but it may make it easier. Tape the glass up with masking/gaffer tape over top i.e. bit going from top outside over frame to inside top .. do it with 2 bits of tape. Then it is only 6 wee bolts to pull the mechanism.

It will still be a fight to get the lock out.. they do not come easily..

Re: Removing drivers door lock.
Hi On a 460 I replaced all the locks. It looks the same on the 463 I have now Handles come off by undoing the phillips head screw (usually unless someone has replaced it) that is inside the door reveal in line with the door handle. You then just pull the handle off the body by lifting it from the back edge (the end nearest the car rear) and it just comes out. Just to be really clear, by door reveal I mean the bit on the door that the latch mechanism is on. The Phillips screw is just above that. I say this as that's what I would call it, but I guess it might refer to the bit that holds the actual catch :-)) The end nearest the front has a tab to locate it into the body. It's very easy to do. But you might mean the latch mechanism?? Best

Thanks for such a prompt response. Having done my homework reading the previous posts on this forum, it does seem like the best practice is to take the window out then unbolt the window channel near the lock. I'll post how I get on later. Hopefully I can repair my lock, fingers crossed!
