1991 463 G300L ... just failed MoT saddue to rear spring top mount corrosion.  Does anyone have any experience of this and recommend someone in the South (West) preferably to fix it and whilst at it go through the electrics!

I will post some photos when I get her back later today.

Re: Rear spring top mount corrosion

Hi Alan,

Yep it happens !

This is the curved upside down cup which is welded onto the circular tube chassis cross member.

New ones can be obtained from MB I believe and then a sensible welder to do the biz !

Best of luck,

Neil

Re: Rear spring top mount corrosion

Must be a mean mot tester, parts about £100 each from MB, also worth checking tubes next to it, for corrosion as well, can be sleeved. It's not the nicest repair but hopefully will get you another 25 years. Also check Panhard rod mount, mine was awful.

Welder may want tank removing which will add costs as new tank straps needed as well, Tho Gaz did his without lifting body, most will want the extra space.

Here's one I've just done, we replaced the complete chassis tube, Spring mounts and shock perches. All with the body in place, not a job for the faint hearted or one I would do again.
