Rear diff noise? Whirr?
My 463 emits a strange low speed whirr, whirr sound, mostly under load in 3rd gear about 30 mph, you can accelerate out of it, nearly always uphill, very occasionally in 4th. No play in rear prop though joints re staked , company claims it balanced to spec. Both rear wheel bearings renewed but still some play at the wheels. So is it the rear diff? What is the life of a rear axle, oil been changed on a regular basis.
Sound, roughness is definitely from middle or back of car.
Hi Jason
Mine was exactly the same. Does anyone know how much a diff is and gears is. Obviously without pinion and gear
I machined up some sleeves for mine and its been fine. Still no play at wheels after 20 or 30 k miles more
Its a bit tricky and takes some clocking up to ensure all is 100% true and also you are only holding on the
part the inner bearing sits on. I machined some jaws but its still a risk. I can do it but if its comes out of chuck its the risk to take. Its spinning slow and would be ok probably but i am warning you beforehand.
If its knackered anyway you have lost nothing
This was the single biggest improvement i have done fo smoothness, apart from a totally worn out, cant believe it made it home from when i bought it rear uj. Three of the stakes and bearings were perfect but one was a rusted away little stump. I did not find one needle bearing just rust powder
Has anyone else had issues. My oil looked old and shitty but when tested by a friend its properties were not perfect but not terrible

Hi Gaz,
Surely others have problems here? Or how do sprinters cope mileage wise? Not done a huge mileage only 190k, Not abused axle in anyway!
Need this sorting as otherwise everything good, or could it be prop related as did disappear ( I think) when rear prop removed, or could it be transfer box?
