Can anyone confirm that the rear shoes are the same on a 1983 460 and a 1991 463?

I think they are and have sent 460 spares for referb for the 463....i'm just having second thoughts??

Re: Rear Brake Shoes

Actually not....

Most 460's upto around 1988 had Perrot brakes

All late 460's and 463's had Mercedes Benz brakes

Not interchangable in Shoes or components although they look identical

Easy to tell the difference and its stamped on the shoes too..

Perrot have the the brake cable clipped in as they pass through the back plate

MB have a small bracket on the cable that is bolted to the back plate

Shout if you need help

Can supply cheap linings sets...

Gav - you have reminded me!  1991 463 300GDL; needs new linings.  Do you need the VIN?  Alan

Re: Rear Brake Shoes

Local garage cannot fit the linings - sent me to another who said "oo err if the shoes are bent the linings will crack; take to an expert".  So how difficult is to remove the shoes?  I am guessing that the local "agricultural" garage should be able to do it - if it requires anything other than normal tools.

Any thoughts, Gents?

Re: Rear Brake Shoes

The thing is Gav these guys were English; if they had been Eastern Europeans or Indians they would have done it over night and valeted the car ... and charged a fiver each side ... and been pretty sure that they would have got the next job.  Anyone see The Last Train to Nepal last night?

Re: Rear Brake Shoes

Local HGV place moaned like hell when I took my shoes and a new set of linings to them, something about rivets being too small, best find a custom brake lining place, motorbike shops may help ( old school ) or you may have to post , it is worth it for improvement in brakes
