Rear 'barn doors' for 463s
Whilst drearily wandering through Withams during the web-site-down-period-over-the-last-few-months, I noticed about ten armour-protected 500s lined up. They all looked like the 500 Guard per the pictures of the AGM......except with a few (real) bullet holes in them.....they had been used by our dipcore in Basra amongst other places. I, of course, enquired if they could be for sale: answer, job lot, done privately, all 10 bought, deal done - so NO. Shame.........wasn't allowed to take pictures either........but I started to wonder about those rear doors.
My question is however, how easy is it to convert our non-armour-plated-civvy-spec single door 463, to those barn doors.....and are these the same doors as on a 460 (i.e. is there a relatively cost-effeicient way to do it)? Anyone know.....I've asked a few people in Germany who have scoffed at the idea (there almost seems to be a purist, i.e. 460, versus comfort-seeking, i.e 463, attitiude over there) and have given up. Also, apart from sourcing the doors, do you need a completely different (stronger?) rear panel for the hinges (I've noticed these exist for 460s - and one can buy them relatively cheaply, but is this the same for 463 panels as only the armour-plated ones seem to have them?
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance/ph
Very interesting bit about the armoured Gs, shame the common parts aren't made available to the general market. Were they all black?
Back to your question, best person to ask would be someone who has done the conversion or knows how. Perhaps contact Guido in Germany - I know he has a Wolf with fold-down tail, but he knows more about 460s than most.
