Good morning all, would anyone know what make and model radio would have even originally fitted to a 1989 300GD?

Re: Radio

My guess is that no radio would be fitted. Could be wrong, but even up to the early 90's everything was an option. That said, the dealers used to have a range of Blaupunkts that you could have fitted. Or you have anything else you liked put in.

I have an Indianapolis Pro in mine which is quite nice as it does satnav & bluetooth and is not garish.

If you're not bothered and want something cheap, I have a coupe of radios (can't off hand remember what make they are) which I could let you have for a very small consideration!!

Re: Radio

Correct Mr Ian...

Nothing from the factory was the usual....dealer would have fitted a unit at extra cost on customer request...

Blaupunkt's would be the standard fare, anything from Verona or Cambridge to New York or Heidelberg..

Occasionally a factory fitted Becker unit... like an Avus or Europa to a Grand Prix or Mexico

Latterly they would have MB sourced Classic, Special or Exqusit often made by Becker or Grundig etc..

Re: Radio

My 1989 280 has a Becker in it.  Funnily enough my dad bought a 300SLK car the other month (think that was the model), on a K (1993) plate, and that has the exact same radio in it.  Although his one works....

Mine is coming out as I'll fit something modern. doesn't work properly, but maybe someone can fix it... free if anyone is interested.

Re: Radio

That's interesting, thanks for the response, mine has a Blaupunk Oxford in, would that be original? It doesn't look like right one it looks a bit older that 1989 and it doesn't work very well, keeps losing signal, I want to replace it with something retro but one that works.

Jamie,

I emailed you via the GWOA PM or email system (can't remember which) but I've had a postmaster reject message. Can you PM me again with an email addy and I'll send it again.

Thanks,

Ian

Re: Radio

Hi,

Mine still had original Blaupunkt Radio (cassette, can't remember type, Oxford possibly) which I removed for a CD version (would rather have DAB now, but that's for another time). Anyway, it was still working when I removed although I think one of the kids had removed a knob... It's sat in my garage at the mo, but if happy to pay postage I don't object to sending it to a new home... Also still have original speakers, but 1 is shredded.

If you feel worth a try, happy to oblige.

Cheers

Stewart

Re: Radio

Slightly of topic, but my old Lexus has a COMAND equivalent set up (but actually better-touch screen and all that) that has a tape facility.

I bought one of these Griffin tape head things (about £5 iirc), plugged in my iPod, it works really well. Just occurred to me that I can probably plug in my DAB too, which is nice. I like R4X.

Re: Radio

Hi all, many thanks for your kind offers but I have just purchased a Blaupunkt Cambridge CC31  radio cassette off of ebay, it looks a bit more like the part, hopefully I can get some loud music out of it, it's a long way to the south west meeting with just my good lady for company!

As you have the cassette version, why not give the griffin thingy I mentioned a whirl. Best £5 I've spent for a while.
