Please Help - leaking fluid rear wheel, but not brakes...?!?

Hi All,
Returned tonight to find 'sweet sickly' smelling oil (sure any mechanic would recognise) dripping from rear wheel. Initial thoughts brake slave cylinder seals gone, but on inspection no visble leak from slave or brake pipe. Have attached images hopefully showing issue. Note car had been on angle down to this wheel as opposite wheel has been removed whilst working on leaking fuel filler pipe (one of multiple ongoing 'projects'!!!).
Not familiar with this, but would appear fluid leaking from the axle? What might this be, or more importantly what do I need to do; remove wheel attaching plate (six bolts?), then... HELP PLEASE
Cheers All

Hi,
Following workshop manual (attached, removal rear axle shaft), I have removed the 6 x attachment nuts holding bearing cover (5), and now a case of "Pull out rear axle shaft" (6) - anybody any clues/advice/strategies how to do this? Or is it case as my neighbour keeps shouting "use a bigger hammer!", I can't get it to budge :(
Cheers
