Hello hello.

Quick question. Anyone painted their leatherseats again here or has experience with this?

Does it work? Does it look alright? How long does it last etc?

Thank you.

Re: Paint old leather seats.

Since around 1980 most leather seats have a colour coating on top of the leather, which is acrylic-based. This can be rubbed-down with wet & dry abrasive paper and the seats 'repainted either by dabbing with a sponge or air-gun'. The ones I've seen that have had this process done, look like new and it is a durable as before. The key thing is good  preparation of the surface. Small scratches can also be fixed in the process. Best to remove the seats from the car to do the work. Apply two or three thin coats, rather than one heavy coat, allowing time to dry between each coat

Older leather used spirit-based lacquers on the leather and these tend to crack with age. They require more preparation, but can be re-coated with the same, water-based,  acrylic paints.

Try a google image search for "Leather Connolising"  (The process is named after the now-defunct Connolly Leather)
