Hi guys.

So, I´ve just had an OM617 put in my 1985 240 GD. It runs great. Smooth and with plenty power.

Yesterday, however, it started running hot on the highway. The temperatur gauge fluttered quite a bit around the +75 % of the temp scale. Up until then it was always real steady at below the 40% mark on the scale. I turned the heat up to max and it seemed to help a little but I still feel it´s way too hot. The fluttering concernes me a little too. I always check fluids before going out so I know that can´t be the problem. Maybe it´s a busted thermostat?

All the best from Denmark :)

Re: OM617 engine temp

From memory of my 617's , I don't think 40% is normal. That would indicate open thermostat. About 2/3 of scale, I think would be correct, but the gauge will move with engine load and go if if in traffic.

I've had mine heat up due to fuel starvation, but you'd notice the loss of power.
