the 4 wheelers bigger than a lwb g-wagen, higher, slower less comfortable but more practicable, theres a lot to like about them

Yes, but only at the rear, and the  wheels are still independently sprung as the "cart" springs are spigot mounted at their centres. Also offers significantly more wheel travel than you might think and, essential on a close-coupled twin-axle setup, effective load sharing between them; sheer genius. Okay, so I'm a tad biased..... sorry.

They are very versatile and designed from the ground up for fairly extreme off roading.

I like the fact that on the petrol models the Steyr designed air cooled engine has two oil pumps front and rear so that no matter the steepness of the approach or departure angle the engine has a constant oil feed.

Even although it is a similar size to a long wheel base G Wagon the soft top 710M can carry ten adults or with the rear seats in the flat position carry two pallet sized loads up to 1000kg. It can also tow up to 5000kg.

What I particularly like about the 4x4 710 and the 6x6 712 is that it has very few electrics with most things being mechanically activated in a similar manner to the G 460.  There is also the additional satisfaction of pulling large levers to lock the diffs if you like that sort of thing smiley.

This seems a reasonable price

Yes I thought so to. If it had been the soft top then I would have considered it.

The problem with the earlier 710/712 is that they are all manual boxs  where as the later 716/718 have the auto box and diesel engines. I prefer an auto box for off road driving. Compared with SGB prices that 718 is very reasonably priced.
