A very good afternoon to all. I have just joined the forum in a bid to research and purchase my 1st 'G', becoming a part of the community. I am an active member on other Mercedes car forums and hope to learn a lot here too!

I wont really be using the wagen to its full potential, its just I have always loved it and am now in a fortunate enough position to finally get one. Don't get me wrong, unfortunately I don't have an unlimited budget and am hoping to purchase a good one for around 10-14k.

Early research is swaying me towards the 300 version, but its early days.

Re: Newbie

Abb,

Welcome to the forum and club. I would recommend that you take a good look at the buying advice and pointer 'Sticky's' we have, some fantastic pointers. If all else fails, please don;t be worried about posting ANY questions you may have WRT to searching for your new G - no such thing as a silly question!

So what made you go for a G? Do you wish to venture out and so some 'off roading'? What are you looking for a 460,463,LWB, SWB (and so the list begins!  laugh)

Once again a very warm welcome

Re: Newbie

Thank you for the arm welcome  Spider1V. To be honest I have no idea what I will end up with!, (I know I would like the G55 :) ). Wont actually be using it to go off roading if I am being honest, want it more just as a daily when I am not using the CLS 55 I currently have. Have always loved the simplicity of the design and while I appreciate its not every ones cup of tea, it is mine!

Am swaying towards a 300 more than likely petrol, which has surprised me, as  I initially thought it would be diesel before I commenced my research. Would love the 500 or 55, but I am a realist and for my budget that wont be happening.

Have found a couple on the trader, but cant seem to post any links on here for advice.

Re: Newbie

Abb,

Well lets drop the whole - 'I will not be taking it off road'.....Once you are in it and have been to see a few odd days we have Green Laneing I am sure that will change. No you don't have to do the 'Camel' Challenge straight off, but just pottering around off road should be a giggle.laugh

first things first - your CLS 55 WILL be more economical than your up and coming G, in fact speaking to some 300 owners, the 500 is close to the MPG of a 300!! (gasp!). I am going to be upfront and brutal - MPG is not a G-Wagnen 'thing', however if you do your research you can get some very lively diesels - see some of the 606 conversion posts, that give rather good performance and MPG returns, but I am sure there will be more of that later.

When it comes to posting links - open a new tab with the link in the top, copy and then one should be able to post the whole link  as an example
