Booked an Mot for next week,  steering box weeping a lot more than previously so probably will fail on that, tho haven't been bothered when just looked wet.

Though when I rang he said price of mot plus any work needed, as I understand with the new type test, they are not keen on you driving away with a fault if they deem it serious ? Any experiences ?

Clean the leak and spray heavily with WD40 but do mention to the tester that you have sprayed WD40 as protection to steering box - may work.

Speaking to our in-house MOT Tester a small leak constitutes an advisory so don't expect anything drastic here.

Had 2 Mots with the new system. For one I had a cracked screen which would have been a fail so it got fixed first. MOT tester said they cannot prevent an owner driving away after an MOT fail - you remain as liable to a police stop as before. They also don't want cars blocking up the place.

Brake cleaner is more effective
