Hello Mark ,and welcome. Please be very careful about who you are dealing with when looking for a g wagen . Please I implore you to post up the vehicle you are interested in and who is offering it for sale as there are some real crooks out there who will contact you and charm your money away . The g wagen is a cult vehicle enjoy.

Sure, here you go, note the gold leaf and how subtle the conversion has been, it's almost as if it had never been a G Wagen at all smiley

Re: new member

Hello Mark6,

Welcome to the forum and by your red banner the club! Dare I ask what you have been doing in the past 25 years to not have a 4x4? laugh My first advice to you is to read the buying advice section, my second is be careful of being groomed off the forum by unscrupulous dealers - Fixwin38 ( real name Peter Newman) or G Class Centre Ltd are prime examples.

With the GWOA you have some expert knowledge and some great people. Don;t be frightened to ask any questions, we will have the answers.

Looking forward to meeting you at one our our meets soon. Maybe an idea of what you are looking for, if you want a soft road pimp wagen or a hard core off roader you then get 100's of eyes out watching for you!

Once again Welcome

Spider1V

Welcome Mark. Please heed the advice above. Sharks swim in these waters. Beware the Devlins too and Peter Bedford.

Re: Lots of advice re swimmming

Many thanks to you all for advice about the dangerous waters !!

I had Land Rovers and a 2 door Range Rover when they were . what I consider to be "proper"

In recent years after motorcycles aplenty , my wife and I are now exploring cars again

We have a Mercedes W124 estate and R170 SLK  AMG

All ideas gratefully received , petrol or diesel , LWB or SWB , budget is likely to be approx £ 8,000

Thank you again

Mark and Denise

Re: Thanks for even more advice

Firstly apologies for delay

1 - We live near Audley Staffordshire/  Cheshire border  ( M6 junction 16)

2 - I had a W 123 estate ,and a saloon , in my opinion both good and more characterful  , but W 124 drives better and are more sensibly priced nowadays

3 - Griff , your 463 is for sale , is it suitable for a novice who likes to drive ( and possibly green lane too )

home repairs not for me (after running trucks / vans for many years my days of lying under vehicles are hopefully behind me)

Thanks again for advice

Re: Thanks for even more advice

Yes my G's still for sale and it's in good condition original paint work, yes a few rust marks, no rot on the body or underneath it's just passed its MOT today I've never been off road but this is a classic car 22 years old so it needs TLC which is on going, but there's nothing major needed as I've changed all the big parts that comes with the territory, for a154000 mile car, rear springs and shocks, front discs, new radiator, stainless exhaust, long steering control arm (fixed ball joint at one end genuine part only) bottom seal in a the steering box, six injectors service exchanged, various brake pipes and I've owned the car for 10 years.
I could of rushed through a quick paint job (Dulux overall) but it's better to see what could be covered over.
The car is price right I could of put a high tag on it, but yes it's a good car and an excellent starter for a new G owner but for total reliability G Wagen you will have to pull £80 tho out for a new one under warranty then reliability is not always there the older ones have less gadgets to go wrong.
But good luck with finding your G you won't be disappointed when you find a good one.
