Hey all!

I've been here a few months but have only recently become a member.

I have my G about six months now, she's an original UK car, imported to Holland a few years ago , and sold from there when the tax laws changed. Eddie Needamerc and I drove her home (thanks Eddie!) from Holland , thru the UK , one cylinder down , all the way!

Shes a 300GD LWB '83 W460, in gentian blue , she's possibly the tattiest G around here :-) .. But I don't mind , I'm working on getting her sorted as time and funds allow.

Hey Gav!

It's going well thanks! I'm very happy that there's bits of upper body still there as the rust gets cut out!

Some very funny bodging done to the poor girl in the past , let's just say someone was quite adept at papier-mâché !

Ballcock,

About time! See you have been enjoying the G since you passed through the UK! laugh maybe not as fast as your other German motor, but a tad more practical?

Welcome to both the club and forum, you are in good company and hands with all the honorable members from Ireland!

Re: New Irish Member

hi ballcock....and welcome to the club.

you own the same colour G as our first back in 1982. whats the paintcode , i think 510?? or something like that.

keep up the good work and return it back to its former glory. and chuck a turbo engine in it before the respray. a nice 617a to keep things factory spec or a 606a just get spider annoyed !! :))

Re: New Irish Member

Thanks folks for the kind comments..

I'm afraid I don't have access to the paint code, she's in the shop , but there can't be too many '83 LWB gentians around! I think Eddie has already done a search here to see if anyone knows her without success.

Ive a pal in the merc business here in ireland , he checked up on her history, apparently , she left the forecourt in '83 and never once saw a Merc garage since! I don't know why but I kinda like that...

Re: New Irish Member

A few pics ...

The second one gives a vague idea of the work that's being done to the rear panels , the sills and in the wheel arches. As per the usual rules, it doesn't look so bad until you start hacking away the previous bodged 'fixes' ..

Btw, you might recognise the familiar shape of Eddie, leaning on the greasy spoon counter demanding coffee :-)

Greetings Ballcock laugh

For your info Hus, Barney is getting the last engine built by our good friend (the late) Tony Bruegger. This engine was built for one of his private projects so it is sure to be something special. It's an OM662A with intercooling "Somerset" style. Tranny is the CLK 6 speed manual.

Watch this space.

Re: New Irish Member

Hey Axel,

airbus 320 .. Heading home from Alicante today.

I'd say there are very few iron dial cockpits flying around Europe these days.. It's all LED's.

We don't even call it the A/H any more , it's now a PFD .. Primary flight display.

I'm very happy to get into my ole 460 after a day wrestling with modern technology!

Welcome aboard Barney!

Now that would really scare the cr@p out of Spider1V if he saw the red sticker on your window screen from the rear view mirror...........for both seconds.cheeky

Joe...........You'd need a fully booted 606 conversion to pull away from that.....
