The new G400d is an interesting development in the New G class range. With 326bhp and 520ft/lbs it will be pretty useful and still do around 25mpg. I believe it will be available in the UK, does anyone know if that is the case.

Re: New G400

I know Clarkson didn't see the point of adding it to the range.

Maybe just because new TopGear reviewed the 2019 range and liked it here: https://www.topgear.com/car-reviews/mercedes-benz/g-class

It says the G400 is coming next year, 2021

And dont forget there is talk of an electric G.  Eeek.

Re: New G400

From the article you linked to Clarkson was talking about the G350 not the G400 although I suspect he wouldn't like either of them.

I would like a new G Wagon but not the G63 (for every day use) and having got used to the masive torque available from my V8 diesel Cayenne I thought the G350 felt a bit underpowered. I think the increased power available from the G400 might make it more suitable for my needs.

I think the future will almost certainly bring an electric G Wagon and I don't really have anything against electric vehicles. I have three phase power available at home and work so a rapid charger would be  easy to install. I think the instant torque, relative mechanical simplicity and cheap running costs of an EV is a good thing my only concern is the charging infrastructure if you need to travel beyond the range of the battery.
