Hi All.... I thought it was about time i posted some pics of my new baby....Factory Black paint, Elec windows, auto, walnut trim, had her 2 weeks now.. am very happy indeed!!... only done a few mods so far... upgraded the front indicators and side repeaters to white ones... re-powder coated grilles on front.. plus a new star..full service by myself.. locking wheel bolts.. tidied up the interior with a shampoo and clean..new rear speakers..got the central locking working along with the radio, although the electric areal is still asleep... possibly an earth-ing issue under the wing... no rust apparent on the car... straight and tidy at 103,000 miles with 3 previous owners..engine is sweet..

am still looking for a new exhaust (stainless steel) as the centre box is £368 at MB!!..and a hard spare wheel cover... will likely get bigger wheels in time.. but am happy to enjoy my first ever G Wagen... MOT due end of Sept so  im trying to get every little odd job sorted... the pin on the rear door stay snapped off....am looking at getting it welded or some other solution...  the help and advice i have had from this forum gave me the confidence to buy a 24year old car.. my first classic... and i will no doubt keep her as long as i can...

Hi

Nice looking g

Has the pin broke off the door or the body. If its the door its best bolted to keep paint nice. If its just the strap yes weld it

Exhaust could be made out of stainless with ease and just some time. There are good and bad exhaust people though. If its stainless and fits well it wont need replacing any time in the next 100 years or so lol

Nice looking.  I also have a 280GE SWB (although have pulled the engine out at the moment for a 606 conversion)

Wish my interior trim was like yours!! mine is baby sick brown.....

I've got the center silencer off of mine if you're interested... £40?  in pretty good condition, just some rust on one of the flanges, I'll give it a clean up later with a wire brush.

Re: My 280 GE SWB 460 pics

Thanks for all your kind comments... I have to admit i did originally want a V8 463 but my funds wouldn't stretch that far all in one go (plus its rare)can you elaborate...as i dont know what a 606 engine  conversion is ?...

I would have liked to drop a V8 into my 460...but the comments on people who have done this have made me realize its not ideal.. with gearing issues and cost (i would need a lot of help doing it) I Got my 460 for 8k  and have grown to love its classical looks... (still ache for a G55 AMG tho!!) would like to re-trim interior in leather at some stage but i can live with the grey check ... I have looked at my exhaust and it looks pretty bad in terms of rot... so i will probably go for a full stainless...am tempted to go for side exit exhausts with a bypass pipe around the centre silencer via a electric cut off valve (as with Astons etc) Pic attached... which the exhaust builder would fit in during the build...so i can have a noisy or quiet exhaust whenever the mood takes me..

or I may just go for a standard design.. (comments please for and against)

I took the back door panel off to get at the door stay pin that has snapped...and got a wonderful surprise... the interior of the panel has been Wax-Oil'ed!! i cant imagine anyone doing just one panel so i have to safely assume the whole car has been done (a job i was going to get around to) I managed to get the broken pin out and it seems it has been broken and welded back in before.. MB has said the stay on its own is no longer available...and the entire part is £93 so i have a dilemma... spend £10-15 having it re welded and risk it breaking off again or order the whole in-door part with the stay...and end up with a bit i don't need and slightly poorer... what to do...

I managed to fix my non functioning electric aerial... the earth wire under the wing was very badly corroded... took it off... claned it up... bingo... works a treat... just half an hour with some WD40 and emery cloth... have double earthed it now so hopefully it will stay working...oiled the mast too...just to finish off the job.

Bought some touch up paint from Halfords... all the little stone chips are now dealt with too... nice kit..vehicle specific colours with a brush and a nib pen, easy to use and only £8 ish

have ordered a new Alternator adjustment bolt from MB for £11.. to sort my toothless one...no amount of adjustment will tension the belt enough to drive without a shriek!! (yes i do know how to loosen the other bolt first)

I have some redex injection cleaner...has anyone used it before...does it work...or can it cause damage.. havent put it in yet... used some on a 7 year old diesel engine and it was good for lowering emissions before MOT..??

looking forward to driving her soon...

dreaming of 18" AMG wheels on her..leather..light tint on windows..loud exhaust.....zzzzz
