Hi All,

Would anyone happen to know if i can just replace the multi funtion buttons to the steering wheel on my 1999 G500 or will i need to replace the whole airbag as well?

Regards

Freddie

The buttons are separate parts and be replaced on their own. You will need to remove the airbag for access. There are two Torx screws accessible from the rear of the steering boss. But before you do anything disconnect the car battery.

Typically, the rubberised coating on the steering buttons goes goopy with age, but the coating can be removed with alcohol, if that is your issue.

Rub with a cloth wetted with iso-propyl alcohol or methylated spirits. But protect the leather around the switches, with some low-tack masking tape.(usually blue version). Removal of the rubbersised coating will not remove the symbols, which are molded-in.

you can find used switches on eBay for around £25, but being old, they will probably also have the same issue.

Exactly the same thing happened on my 1999 G500.  Used Goo Gone to fix the problem.
