MOT success
Dear all,
Was off the forum for a good while mainly because I had kept getting ripped off by fellow members selling both G Wagon parts and services, but I rejoined recently when I realised I was not the only one this was happening to, and that the forum was now addressing this issue.
My 1989 300GD passed its MOT in Northern Ireland last night with flying colours. It required no new parts. I have not yet received the invoice from the mechanic yet but it will be sub £100, not bad for a 25 year old jeep. Last year it passed with an outlay of below £200 and some sound advice from the likes of Rakesh, Gav and Tony. The truck was prepared for MOT by a retired lorry mechanic in his 70's both this year and last.
Moral of the story is that it is possible to maintain and run a G Wagon for a reasonable amount of money using an honest mechanic and the resources that this site offers. Well done GWOA.
Tip for new members: If you post something on the forum, and you get a PM from someone who isn't contributing to your post on the forum best delete that PM. Alternately if someone posts 'Read your PM' best delete that PM without reading it also. It will save you lots of money.
Regards,
Colm
well said colm! and well done on getting your g mot'd for sensible expenditure without so called expert input.
it is a shame that there is still no official proper warning note for members to read about the perils and sharks that await all members and owners of g wagens who visit the gwoa site and take part in the forum.
did you read spider's post ??
it is still going on even now with several g owners having their g's at places they would sooner not have them...

Couple of points.
joe askew wrote a really good welcome and friendly warning to all and sent the draft and it was ignored - and what happened next ..
if you go swimming at weston super mare beach there is no 'warning sharks' sign because there are none (sharks that is)
however this situation on this forum has been developing for a long time and the 'individuals' (sharks) are well established and keep a low profile - now we see them ,it is not unreasonable to ask for some 'signs' .
joe askew wrote an excellent piece to do such a thing and it has not been adopted or used and he we are ....
vehicles of atleast 2 members vehicles are at risk / let's wait and see.
let's not worry about other forums - this one (gwoa) needs some kind of big warning that we all see when we log in every time.

Just because an idea is not adopted, does not mean it's been ignored.

Colm - great to see you back in the club! And I am glad that you have got your G sorted out.

Should anyone on the forum have a scrap one for £200, plus £50 labour to cut it off the scrapped G Wagon with a stihl saw, plus vat (though cash payment only because no receipts or guarantees will be given with it) don’t bother PMing me about it because I will be deleting the PM before I read it.
Regards,
Colm
Very good :-)
I like your sense of humour Colm.
Eddie.

Dear all,
Thanks everyone for my re-welcome to the forum.
My heart goes out to those guys who have been ripped off axel.
Spider, its great to be reading your posts again, I always enjoy reading your posts and have read them all over the last few months.
I spoke too soon with the truck and it MOT though. A patch was put on the exhaust silencer for MOT and I was advised that it might not last much longer than the MOT test and as predicted it hasn't.
I have sourced a new silencer for £75 all in including delivery so I well happy with that.
