Mercedes G36 AMG for sale
Unfortunately (for me) LHD - but otherwise something a bit different for the more discerning
That seems a reasonable price for quite a rare G.
I see they are also selling a nice example of a 280GE. Its interesting to note that they are asking £19k for that compared to £16k for the 463, although they both appear to be in similar condition.
There's some chatter about htis on te MBClub board with at least one person stating unequivocally that this cannot be a 3.6 engine. I've written to the seller asking for the VIN, so we will see.....
Appears genuine enough.
The engine pictured is definitely the M103 sohc. I have never heard of these being enlarged to 3.6L.
Thought Brabus did 3.6
looks like an ordinary 3.0 m103 engine to me with a badge glued onto it, without paper work I'd query the price, but the car looks decent enough. Brabus did make a 3.6 sohc and I believe AMG knocked up 3.2 and 3.4 litre versions too. Should look more like this though
I'm not a betting man.....but.... i would have a fiver on this one....
That looks like a standard 463.228 LWB chassis 300GE M103 12 Valve with a crap AMG badge stuck on the rocker cover
All proper G36 AMG's were 463.231 LWB chassis types that were converted G320 M104 24 Valve motors
Yes they also made 463.230 SWB and 463.208 Cabrio G36 AMG Versions before i get corrected
Circa 2735 standard 463.231 were made, 2615 being standard G320's, 120 being G36 AMG's of which 109 of these went to Japan and 58 of the Japan models were Brilliant Silver....
This just ain't one of them unless its had a de tune!!! Chassis number will tell me....
It would appear that 10 of the 2615 463.231 also had a G500 M119.960 upgrades, 5 had G500 M117.965 upgrades and a solitary M117.968 5.6 litre monster is out there somewhere....
Brabus did do a 3.6 litre version of the 300GE M103 but with red rocker covers as the previous posters picture
They also did a 3.6 litre version of the G320 M104 motor
All AMG G36's are M104's picture attached....
Gav,
Posted at 0.33, don't you ever sleep :)
If there was a Brabus conversion done, would that show up on your records?
Presumably, the info you have on record is from the AMG conversions.
I didn/t know that the M119 fitted into a G
Gav
There was an AMG M103 motor ( I think) that found its way into the odd SL R107 so there may have been AMG M103 12v available for the G.
However the Japanese engine does not look very convincing.
When you take your place in the black leather chair on mastermind one of the questions might be - was there a 460 with a Brabus 2.6 4 cylinder engine, what was that engine and where can you find one.

Sleeps for wimps
As for the Brabus, then no you would have to check with Brabus, just like the pre 1993 AMG's, the 36 AMG's were the first post takeover / merger AMG models C36 E36 G36 etc
Not many M119 G's but i have details for a couple of dozen... i think AMG tweaked them...

Your right there was an AMG version of the M103, from memory it was pre merger around 1989/1990 but was only a 3.2 litre version i think.... they were like the Brabus ones now, just retro customer orders built by AMG....I once took an AMG 3.2 W124 saloon out for a blast, part ex we took in the late 90's first owner was some bloke called Sterling Moss, they reckon he could drive ;) it sure scared the be jesus outta me :) nearly as quick as the Diablo SV we took in the same week, and at least the interior didn't fall apart at speed ;)
It's fake. All G36 AMGs were based on the M113 engine (DOHC as opposed to this SOHC job).
There was a Brabus engine based on the SOHC M103 engine, though. But definitely no AMG.
Badly glued stickers too
According to wiki, the only G36AGM was a M104 engine not M103. I have asked for the advertised vehicles chassis and engine number.
- "G 36 AMG — M104E36 3.6 L I6, 258 hp (190 kW), 273 lb·ft (370 N·m)"
The above is a quote from a line from Wikipedia.

I emailed them on the 17th asking for the vin no and got no reply, I emailed again this morning. Let see if they answer this time..
Now I am not sure about G AMG Engines - but with all the other ones (C,E,S CL etc Class)- the AMG workmanship its a lot better than that example. I also thought AMG had the name plate of the engineer that worked on the engine?
Also the interior - again AMG have a different binnacle (White on Black) and much sportier seats. OK this was originally for the Japanese market, so not sure what their specs would be - but more than that I am expecting....
So to make an AMG all one has to do is put an AMG plate on the engine block and an AMG badge on the back and it is so.... - Wow No wonder MB makes so much money on the AMG's...
Wonder why they have not come back to Ian with the VIN yet......?
Spider1V
I've asked for several over the years, and until now have never been ignored. Refused once, but successful mainly. I must have "honest citizen" plastered all over my fonts
UPDATE: Clearly my honest fontedness shines through. I have the vin and have pm'd to Rakesh.
Thank you Ian for your PM; I got the same message from dealer through my own enquiry. My next question to them if there is any supporting paperwork showing this commission and where it was done.
Following that, I will try to get with AGM to confer this point.
Rakesh,
If you don't have any luck with AMG let me know and I will ask via the AMG lounge. They hava a direct line to Affalterbach and have always been super helpful.
ETA: Rakesh obviously has honest fonts too...
Any update on this?
Any update on this?
The chassis number i have seen, albeit third hand, was just a standard 300GE M103.987 engine....
Not sure the source is 100% straight but it still didn't prove otherwise........
What I don't understand is, if this definitely is a fake, why has no-one reported the seller to Trading Standards or similar? They appear to be a substantial operation dealing in fairly high end collectors cars and I would have thought they would be keen to protect their reputation (or is that me being terribly naive?)
I don't read much into the fact that they haven't given Ian the VIN number - I've asked sellers of four G Wagon's, including dealers, for this information and my requests are always ignored. Presumably they think I'm going to try and clone the vehicle??
