Mercedes dealership - getting parts!!!
Hows this work?
Phoned local Merc dealers (Sheffield) to get rocker cover gasket (plan to check valve clearances). Apparently part needs ordering so I have to pay upfront. Fine, but they can't take card payments over phone... so I need to go in, order and pay, and then return when parts arrive (don't normally go near in daily travel so requires extra journey). Is there a better solution than this!?!
Anyway, just thought I'd mention...
That seems strange and rubbish service.
When I need a part for my G the local MB dealer (Inverness) seem to have no problem with taking credit card over the phone for parts. They'll even put the parts on the local bus service so I don't have to pick them up which is a good job as I use 'local' euphemistically - Inverness is 60 miles away!!
I'd contact MB HQ or try and talk to the parts manager or dealer principal in the Sheffield dealership.
I recently bought a bonnet insulation pad for my SL from the local main dealer. Phoned up, not in stock, paid by card, delivered to them the next day, and I picked it up.
Your dealer seems to have a very strange way of doing things.

As for the card bit...they are only protecting you...!!!
If they took card over the phone and delivered the part to the registered address then that's OK
If they took it over the phone and you collect, you could have just found that card in the street, or been stolen etc...
I would not like to think my card can be used to purchase items as easily as that...
You may think, but its only £10... who would bother.... that could just be a tester to see if it works... the next order may be £2k
We have been on the receiving end of this on many occasion in the past, the card holder general will incur no costs if they have reported any issues, but will incur lots of grief sorting it !!!
The business will loose out financial as the card supplier will just debit the money back...
Better safe than sorry....too many scum bags out there. :(
Some of you may have good relations with suppliers, and they are comfortable bending the rules because the deal with you on a regular basis, as a one off...it should never happen...

Maybe because they know me? Don't know.
