MAKING A G WAGON ULEZ COMPLIANT
Hello fellow members
So last august the London ULEZ was expanded to cover where we live and since then every time I drive the old faithful (1988 280ge) I've had to pay the £12.50 charge (thank you S Khan) and I'm sure that I'm not the only member that has had and still has to pay.
So I now need to decide whether to keep the wagon or find a new home for it, or of course carry on paying the ......charge. I'm very reluctant to sell it as I enjoy driving it but regrettably I can not afford to continue to pay the fines.
However, I'm told that there might be another option that is fitting 2 sets of jump seats so that having a 9 seater wagon I could apply to DVLA/TFL for ULEZ exemption.
I spoke to the DVLA, who frankly don't have a clue so I then spoke to TFL who have told me that having a 9 seater car MIGHT make it exempt from the CONGESTION CHARGE (London) BUT will not be exempt from ULEZ. Confusing hey?
Now I hear that some wagon owner, having applied for the exemption, have been successful and have been given the exemption, this may or may not be true; maybe the exemption they have been given is only for the CONGESTION CHARGE?
It would be good to hear back from any one who mingherlino have been success of getting an exemption or for that matter any ideas, apart from paying the charge or selling the wagon, what options or any are available?
Thank you fellow affezionati.
Henryc
I THINK the 9 seater rule only applies to the Congestion Charge (where Transport for London says that you have to apply for a "100% discount".)
Had a pretty good search but they don't say anything about ULEZ so I rather think it isn't available for that.
Means I have to drive my wife's newer Jimny if I want to travel to see my sister now.
Not sure I'd describe it as fun and it doesn't cope with bumpy roads as well.

Two categories of historic vehicles are exempt from ULEZ:
All vehicles built before 1 January 1973
Vehicles over 40 years old that have been successfully registered with the DVLA for a historic vehicle tax class

The article is a bit misleading because one of the cars featured is a 1973/4 MGB.
ULEZ exemption is for 40 years+ cars that have been registered with DVLA (as historic) to get tax, MOT and ULEZ exemption. So the date is (now) from 1984

Hi Happy New Year all.
Does this mean an 84' W460 is exempt from all?
Thanks
G.
The conclusive research from several here is:
A G can be exempted from ULEZ if:
Over 50 years old (per ScouseG and here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/discounts-and-exemptions#on-this-page-6 )
Over 40 years old having registered with DVLA as an Historic vehicle for Road Tax exemption and MOT exemption.
If you have a newer G with 9 seats, you can get it exempted from Congestion Charge (like a mini-bus), but NOT ULEZ.
Yes it does , get your forms into the dvla !
Hi Mark - thank you for your message and - it certainly looks like it.
Though the Jimny sounds fun and looks like a small wagon.
