As above, anybody know if/where there is a point I can get some power in to my SL so that I can open the boot to charge the battery.

I've had a lot of suggestions on the MBClub board but no-one knows for certain.

Thanks

Solved.

I fed some juice in via the fuse box, it was enough to open the boot.

You probably found this already, but just in case:

Thanks I had a look at that just out of interest, but I have to say I couldn't find anything other than: "how to jump start".....for our American cousins no doubt!

Anyways....problem solved and corrected. The issue caused by a trickle charger going phut on me. Once I had managed to open the boot by putting some juice in via the fuse box, I was able to start the car with my booster pack and after I had given it a run I hooked up another trickler. Thirty hours later it's starting fine.

Interestingly lots of people seem to think there's a jump point under the bonnet. Not in a MY '98 there isn't!!

Time to knock up an anderson connector and leave it under the bonnet, so next time you can just plug into it.

I've seen some cars with a plastic screw on cap which hides a stud underneath, I assume you can just clamp a +ve jumplead onto it (and the -ve onto some earth point under there too)

If, under the bonnet you do not have a post as circled in red;such as shown below:

Then you could have a terminal marked 20/23 as shown in the illustration below.

In reality like:

Funnily enough I was musing idly today how difficult it would be to fit some kind of a jump point. What's an Anderson connection and how easy is it to knock up?

ETA: Just seen a YouTube demo. Looks easy enough, question is where to locate it. Probably in the foot-well.

Yes, some SL's have that connection point. Mine doesn't, at least not under the bonnet. I understand that it has a similar/identical connection point in one side or another of the foot-well. As it was unclear which side it was (if indeed it exists) located, I resisted the temptation to pull out all the carpets to find out. My experience is that things tend not to go back the way they should!!

Thanks

Thanks, I also found a helpful tutorial on YouTube. Also found the parts on eBay. Now just need to find where the points are!

^^^^^^ That's the kiddies

If you've got an auto factor near you who sells Durite stuff, then they do genuine Andersons too.

175amp ones should be plenty, which are (durite) 0-431-75 for the grey ones, or 0-432-75 for red colour

I am aware you have resolved your issue but in my research one thing has been bugging me. Why did you not use your key to unlock your boot. Including and pre 1998 models have keys for the boot. Unless my sources are wrong or you have lost your master key.

Sorry Rajesh, I didn't put all the details up. Anyway, for some reason the key would not open the boot. No idea why, but it's ok now.
