What does this good company of GWOAs think LHD drive does to the value of G's here in the UK?

Re: LHD
Hi Alan Well I always thought a general rule was 10% less than UK model like for like. But now we have the strength of the £ vs the euro, so that negates it. Then depends on what sort of car - more unique less impact? You also have re-sale to think about - harder to get rid off and what you save upfront will come off the re-sale.. From a running point of view there might be more to pay for insurance if your were talking about an everyday mid/high milage driver - people might argue otherwise, but the slightly worse visibility at junctions has to translate into more accidents? However again if a low mileage or more unique not sure? I suspect we are getting - G wise - to more an issue of availability and choice than pure cost, hence why the Japanese import route looks good in terms of choice - and yes I know they are RHD :-)) - as getting a UK spec car is getting harder till the new ones age through... but what do I know. All an educated guess.. Simon

Re: LHD

Personally I have no problems with a LHD, be it a  G-Wagen or not.  Appreciating there is one discomfort in running a LHD G-Wagen; which is at car parks, all the meters are accessable from on the o/s window. If one has those 'selfi-sticks' modified I suppose you can over ride the discomfort.

For prices; I would imagine prices would be lower than the European continent (E/C). But due to the lack of RHD available prices may just match that of E/C.

So why the question then - Why? wink

Why the question?  I have friend living in the former Soviet Union; you would not believe the cost of Gs (and an amazingly cheap ML63 for that matter).  I have had LHD cars before when in the army, with the ride height of a G there is absolutely no problem and I don't pay for parking - I avoid cities!

Yes, don't forget that Russia is not part of the EC and there would be VAT to pay on import, as well as perhaps other import duties.

Good point Arnie, but it (they?) are not coming from Russia.  However the logistics could well be a nightmare.

Re: LHD

You can find many parts from cars being broken for spares from a number of former (Baltic) USSR countries. More-so than from anywhere else in Europe (just look on ebay). There may be a good reason for this, but it would make me think hard about validating the originality of any vehicle coming from there.
