Kastenwagen (van) Fantasy build
Have been offered an as new military van shell from a respected european source
This would make a wonderful G pur / professional / worker style G on a 460 chassis
Ideal for shell replacement on a basket case rot bucket with 5 or 6 cylinder upgrade at the same time
Am looking for members to start a fantasy thread on their dream spec
This will help to motivate me to see if I should take this to the next level !
So please , post away , fellow keyboard warriors
Snorkel, elephant ear mirrors, recaros, cupholders :-)
Well if its fantasy you want.....
1. Have a cab, decked out how you want, cup holders, sat nav frames, CD players etc etc
2. Power plant it up how you wish... personally V8 of some sort
3. Here is the interesting bit, ever watched Thunderbirds? Am thinking Thunder bird 2... you know... off camping have a chassis that will fit, off collecting wood, have a chassis and body that will fit, just want a pub cruise? Then a chassis with seats in. Getting the drift?
4. Obviously snorkel, lifting, good shocks etc and then you are covered for all eventualities.
5 - get a 6 wheel chassis....
enough to get you going?
Spider1V
Pretty much the Entdecker.. including the colour.
Large fuel capacity and on board air.
And how about heavy duty axles?
This colour has taken my fancy lately, RAL7032
A van could make a great camper / expedition vehicle with enough room for a sleeping platform inside with some full length sliding storage drawers underneath. Or even cooler an integrated hard top camper (Maggiolina type) as part of the roof/replacement roof.
Also consider some gullwing windows or panels on the side for easy access.
Plus all the usual Entdecker paraphernalia.
Can't see the photo Grazza
Oops, sorry. How about this one:

A nice shade of metallic green, or plain black.
pur mirrors, walkon bonnet, snorkel.
265 or 255 BFG AT's
OBA (York 210 compressor is good for that, will run an airgun easily) with an ex HGV airbrake tank.
carPC for navigation, tech documents and general web surfing when out & about. great for music too.
comfy seats, soundproofing.
hannibal/patriot roofrack
OM606 or 602 engine with 5 sp auto.
I guess everyone has seen this but here is a link to the Entdecker brochure.
Bullbars are de rigueur

I'm thinking of using a tablet with a Ram mount:
As for music I already have a sony car stereo with bluetooth which also has a jack in it. You can just plug in your mp3 or pc into the front (or an optional rear plug) or use the bluetooth. It has a hands free when linked to your phone as well.
A few of my friends also use tablets, or get a Toughbook. These are good in so much as they can be easily removed and hidden or used elsewhere.
I used a voomPC box for mine (I've made up a few others for people too), which looks like a normal car amplifier. This is hidden up in the speaker box in the roof of my 110.
I use a 10" touch screen mounted on a ram mount on the dash. It can be quickly removed leaving no cables or mounts or anything (apart from that little ball on the base mount). I hate untidy wiring, and as good as the toughbooks or tablets are, you end up with cables draped everywhere.
I mainly use it for memory map, but have lots of LR related tech stuff (and slowly filling up with MB GW stuff too LOL), music, films etc. the PC is wired into the aux socket of my stereo, so it sounds good too.
Also have a wifi dongle on the roof, so if i'm in any hotspot I can log in,surf, check emails etc (although my phone does emails too)
Ooh, I like that VoomPc box, that's something to consider for the future. Does it require their own specialised components or will standard pc components fit? If it takes standard stuff could be a cheap build..
Also I've heard mixed reports on external wi-fi dongles, which one do you use? How do you find it?
Sorry for the thread hi-jack Tony!
20mm body lift with standard spring and shocks on 461 steels and 8.25×16 michelin tyres
Power by 606a auto or 662 5 speed
Unimog axles
6-speed OM366LA
Actually, fukit, might as well do it properly - one of these will do:

Turn up speakers to full volume!
Left graphic is kW (x1.36 for BHP)
Middle graphic is the important one!

O/T (sorry Tony)
I like using those voom boxes, although I don't think linITX do them anymore... i've got one of their newer (And cheaper) ones in the attic, which is just a pressed tin box, as opposed to the nice cast ali voom type. The vooms you can also fit a slimline CD/DVD reader into. which is handy for uploading software to the PC, or ripping CD's or DVD's, although thesedays I usually do it indoors on the laptop then just stick it onto a memory stick, then transfer it to the carPC (did I mention i've got USB sockets on the dash to)
They all use the miniITX motherboard, which is 17x17cm, so any of these will fit in. Also they use the 2.5" laptop drives, I tend to go for solid state, much more reliable than the mechanical type, especially when clanking about off road.
linITX also sell a neat little PSU, which you can adjust links on board to make it stay "on" after the ignition goes off or just be direct on/off. quite handy.
Not sure what wifi dongle i've got... it's an N type, got it cheap in Maplins. just wrapped it in electrical tape and cable tied it to the rollcage. It's been on there for about 3 years now, works a treat!
Maplins also do a neat wireless mini keyboard with built in rollerball mouse. makes things easier than the on screen keyboard if you've got a lot of text to type in.
Some great ideas there Jim, would be especially good for extended trips.

Let me start the ball rolling
Colour I think that recent vans have been white only but am leaning towards T1 commercial colours like powder blue or mid gray
