Really glad you did that Fred. Needed to be done. Pure evil and nothing to do with genuine Muslims

That kind of insane behaviour has no justification from any religion let alone Islam.

About 50% of my colleagues are Muslims and in most cases you couldn't ask for a better bunch of people to work with

Just logged in after a while. Second yours Fred: we can't let these fanatics ruin our tolerance to others! Too many wars have been had due to extreme religion/ideology/politics-'inspired' crackpots. This has to stop. Vive le societe !

Re: Je Suis Charlie

I'm not sure that cops deaths on duty is relevant to France and in absolute numbers it pales compared to deaths in police custody

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UK_deaths_in_custody

certainly some are accidental or misadventure but by no means all. I am not so naive as to think our cops are saints, they aren't, our Police are as villainous and corrupt as any other Western Police force, but like all occupations there are good and bad. Nor is Policing a particularly dangerous job,

All they have done is to create panic and not to further their vile ideologies. Let's hope that the behaviour of these cretins just serves to galvanize people TOGETHER rather than divide them. Then they will have failed.

prw / you are miles off the mark no

 shame on you

please  stop doing stuff like this and keep your politics off this forum .

fredecosse started this thread to ask us to show solidarity with the people of france , our police force will defend us as the officer did in paris and who paid the ultimate price in doing his duty , we rely on them to protect us when we are threatened  and  playing down their role and dedication /honesty is just out of order .

why on earth you choose to have a link to a political movement  for getting rid of the monarchy and creating a republic as part of your identity page on a forum dedicated to mercedes g wagens is a bit beyond me .

no doubt you will have someting to say about my reply / i would not normally give you the oxygen of a reply but this just has to be challenged.

I've been made aware of a link on your signature box which appears on every reply you post on here, this is a link to an inflammatory political site and is inappropriate for a friendly car club forum. I would ask you to quietly remove it please.

Paul has had the same signature for many years.

It is only recently a complaint has been made to the moderators regarding Paul's signature.

The moderators unanimously feel that Paul's signature is neither offensive, or against T&C's.

Re: Je Suis Charlie

Ladies & Gents

'I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.'

Good old Voltaire, he encompasses what any civilised society and people will feel and I think, over the years, this forum and club has adhered to this. The events that are happening in the world today, I believe, are showing us that there are a small group of ignorant people trying to force their beliefs and visions on the majority of people and the events since 9/11 have shown us this. The only way to combat it is through solidarity and understanding, which is what I believe the countries of the civilised world are trying to do.

Darker days are coming and despite what has been written about the various police and armed forces - As George Orwell once said 'We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.'

Let us not forget it is usually the minority of events we hear about and not the silent majority of events that pass us by, without notice or fanfare, done by honest and upstanding people.

Fred - a Great thread.

A reply

Please re read Fred's original post, he's about freedom of speech a basic principle of France; another is its secularism and being a republic committed to Liberte Equalite & Fraternite. To those who don't like my link to republic.org.uk, sorry you don't like it but have no intention of removing it, its been on my posts longer than many of you have been on the forum.

I don't particularly like links to their businesses that appear on some users posts but I don't intend making an issue of it

I don't profess to understand either...

TBH i have enough on understanding MY life most days without worrying too much about others views especially if put across in a peaceful manner...

Your views are just that, your views and surely everybody is untitled to theirs as long as they remain lawful and peaceful in the country you reside?

Lets stick to the G talk and embrace a view of one world with one people that all love G's (and the P4)

It really just proves Fred's point, we all... PRW, Axel et al... all have the right to say and promote what they believe in and there is room for all......just not on here as Eddie rightly says

My heart is with you and your nation Fred, and by marriage a good percentage of my family too... speaking with my cousins across the channel, they all share your grief and dismay at current events and hope even with a great deal of hesitation that things settle down and common decency prevails.
