Good evening all, I have had the front and small rear prop shafts redone on my G wagon fairly recently, I now have a small vibration that probably wouldn't bother too many people, however it's really starting to irritate me, it only shows itself on start up on idle, or when stationary in gear ( stopping at a junction), as soon as the revs get higher near (800rpm) it stops, and it stops when you start to move, It was never there before, it seems worse when you put it in to drive, I also had the gear box bracket replaced, it been in to the garage and they cannot find any problems. It seems the longer you drive the less you can feel it.

Any advise as always will be appreciated.

Thanks Paul

Re: Irritating vibration

The 300GD s are sensitive to both gearbox and engine mounts being in good order to dampen vibrations. If you've replaced the gearbox mounts, I'd also do the same for the engine mounts. I had to change all these in my last 300GD at around 100k miles.

Re: Irritating vibration

Maybe try molylube diesel purge treatment?

Or it could be due an injector replacement/refurb.

Re: Irritating vibration

New rear exhaust has just been fitted, could it cause vibration if so how ? Had mounts checked out last time the prop was fitted and also had the long rear prop checked, all seems fine, there doesn't seem to be any issue with misfire, it runs and ticks over fine, the odd thing iv found is the longer the journey the less noticeable the vibration, it could be me but I never noticed any problem before the props where done. Thanks Paul

Re: Irritating vibration
Does sound very like the exhaust has been moved a little out of position during recent work and is now just touching chassis / something mounted to the chassis. Not sure of the route of diesel exhaust but on 280 the downpipes pass very close to the chassis and there isn't much clearance to a couple of heatshields.

Re: Irritating vibration

Good evening all, a strange thing has happened with my irritating vibration, the starter motor  started to play up ( I thought it was the starter! ) so in she goes to the local auto electrician, a bit odd as I had the starter changed before I brought the truck so only three years or so old, anyway I have a spare, after checking, it turns out it's not the starter but the battery which is also only three years old, the water level has dropped and it needed a recharge, a simple fix, I went down next day to pick her up and low and behold when I started her up the irritating vibration had gone! I though it was my imagination but next morning and ever since  when started no vibration, can anyone give me any idea why? Thanks Paul

Re: Irritating vibration

A long shot , but if battery not very good, alternator was having to work that much harder possibly causing vibration but your alternator would have to be in a rough state, does sound a long shot.......
