Greetings. Does anyone have a suggestion for competitive insurance for my V8 G500?

Re: Insurance

Morpheus,

My insurance will be renewed in a couple of weeks.  2000 G500.

Adrian Flux renewal: £750

Cheapest quote on comparison sites: £550

Direct Line: £335

After emailing Adrian Flux to better their renewal:£748!

I do live in the sticks and keep the Wagon garaged but I am still very pleased with the direct line quote and shall be using their policy.

Rgs

Ian.

Re: Insurance

Have a 2001 G500 LWB, outside of London, off road parking , fully comp, no mileage limit, cover for green laning and off roading (but not timed events). NCB protection, free car if damaged etc - National farmers Union around the £750 mark

Re: Insurance

To some £700 will sound an awful lot. To others not so bad.

It's all dependent on many things:-

Your age - young (bad), older (good)

Are you able to claim a No Claims Discount

Do you have another car (yes is good)

How many miles do you expect to drive your G each year (limited mileage is good especially if you have another car)

What is your occupation (pop singer is BAD, work in a bank etc. is good)

Where do you park your G overnight (nice secure garage is good, on the street where car theft is common is bad)

I take it your G500 is LHD (generally a bit more expensive than RHD to insure)

Reading over the above I can see that this is not much help (but I've written it now and can't bring myself to delete it).

Best bet is if you have another car insured and can insure this one on a classic car type policy (although that depends a bit on its age)

Good luck.

Re: Insurance

In the dim and distant past, in a previous life, I was in Lloyds, so I can say with some confidence that there is no such thing as cheap insurance.

The value of the policy only becomes evident when you make a claim. Some of the cheaper outfits ain't so cheap with all their "administration" charges, and indeed can be a nightmare when it comes to claim time.

My G is insured with NFU who, in my opinion are one of the best. I changed to them some years ago, hours after they "went on risk" SWMBO managed to get rear ended whilst in an almost new ML.

One call to the NFU is all it took. Really, just one call. They sorted everything out painlessly and never came back to me for anything.

Best claims experience I've ever had.

Re: Insurance

Just taken out comprehensive insurance with agreed value and mileage limited to 6,000pa with Lancaster at £176.77.

Of course, that's for a G300 not a G500 so bound to be a bit cheaper.

Re: Insurance

NFU have a great reputation for being one of the best - if not the best. But, they do not cover all areas of the country.

Also LV and NationWide have good customer ratings.

For a LHD G400, I had a quote for around 800 from NFU and somewhat more from Adrian Flux (also requiring mileage tracker).

Direct Line agreed with their underwriters  to insure it as a G500 AMG for around 300

(A  G300 would have been about 200 to insure)

Have to agree with Ian here, fantastic service and no hidden charges, extra etc. A call and they look after it all for you. Have had to claim twice since owning my G and painless every time. Car supplied, only admin you do is the excess you have agreed.

Not so sure about that; remember there are local NFU offices and there is NFU online. As far I know between them they cover the UK. There are some differences in underwriting practices. For example NFU online would not quote for my SL60 whilst the local office happily quoted.

Quite punitive prices once you get a London postcode, my sister tried who lives in Twickenham and they were no different, and I recommended mark who lives in London and they were expensive. Just saying.

But good if you're outside though.

The previous owner of my G400. was paying a little over 200 with NFU, living in Sussex (but I think he had it down just as 'G-wagen' with no model type.) That's why I tried NFU, but they were not sure whether they could cover me because of my London postcode and then came back with.an estimate of around 700. which ended up being a quote of 840.

Was that NFU on-line or NFU local office?

Re: Insurance
I must thank everyone for your contribution on this topic, as it has been informative. I chose Lloyd Latchford at £495. G 500 LHD 2004 dec val 35k 4000 mls max full NCB. If that info is any help. I think the info Cardman has provided is very promising next time round. Unfortunately I signed up before I saw all the responses so could not explore further. Once again many thanks. Regards.

Re: Insurance

Morpheus, You have double doors on your G500. I have only seen them on the Guard model before. Is yours a special spec one?

Re insurance, I was with NFU for a few years but they put the premium up 100 % one year though no change in my circumstances, blaming market conditions. I went elsewhere and have not returned.
