Just renewed mine with Adrian Flux, Tel. 0845 1303400. Got the number via the GWOA. As a member they give up to an extra 15% discount.

Cost, limited mileage, £147 fully comp.

So this plus the stainless exhaust that the GWOA put me on to has saved me loads, paid for about the next 20yrs worth of subscriptions anyway!!

Russ.

I tried Adrian Flux, wouldn't help me since I also live in London and use the car as more than an occassional motor...

The cheapest I managed to get was through Norwich Union, but it wasn't that cheap... £950 with full no claims discount for a '92 463....

But also try: Roadsure 020 8989 3339. They quoted me less than £400 but unfortunately I couldn't take...

For a 1991 300 GDS......

For a 1991 300 GDS Left Hand Drive...... 40 y.o. driver + 36 y.o. spouse, protected 6 years NCD, including legal coverage, no inmobiliser, no tracking device, no alarm, sleeps in driveway, with 3 cars in family, 4,000 miles p.a., fully comp with £ 120 excess and living near Guildford (rural postcode), I was quoted:

Norwich Union Direct (0870 5143 177) £ 378
Adrian Flux (08700 777888) £ 385 (unlimited mielage with £175 excess)
SecureDirect (01922 686100) £ 367 (5,000 miles p.a. with £150 excess)
I decided to stay with NUD which was my current insurer

Believe me, I do lot of shopping around every year and NUD is the cheapest I've found of the "serious" insurance companies.

Yeah, I forgot, but they wouldn't take me because it's a LHD. My neighbour has all his five 'orrible LRs insured there for negligible money.

Mortinson, If you ever get the inclination, I 'd be curious to see how much NUD would quote you if you said you were moving to London N1....

I know London has a premium, but yikes.... I'm paying 2.5x times more? Though maybe the 4k miles pa keeps yours low....

cheers

I just insured my newly aquired 93 300GES with Elephant for £483. This was without any no claims bonus as I am keeping my existing car. I wasn't impressed with Adrain Flux as they quoted me £764 (again without no claims bonus) and £597 taking into account my full protected no claims bonus. I don't know how they could justify the difference of only £167 for full no claims bonus. Also Norwich Union Direct don't insure for second cars if you haven't built up any no claims bonus

How do I post the pics?. I bought the G from Adrian Holden (member) and having driven it over the past three days am extremley happy with it. There are a few mechanical things to sort out : new steering damper, rear brake hub needs replacing and needs new windscreen. After that the project to customise the car will begin in earnest. I plan to respray, and reupholster the G and to change the wheels. Also plan to install some form of DVD entertainment system but still working out how to with the limited dash space. I like the pics of Florians G's interior and want to achieve something similiar.

Send me a few quaility digipics and I'll post them in the relevant section of my own website. Then they can be linked to this forum.

Are you planning to install big wattage in your G? What interior colour has it got? I am asking because the previous owner of mine installed four big speakers in a big box per each front door, which I am obviously not using and would be interested in swapping this setup for the standard one.

Let me know!

Hello,

On a '97 300GE in SW London, I tried Norwich Union (£650), Adrian Flux, in the past and others. The best that I found was Esure (£340) for fully comp and 10,000 miles per year. You can check and get a quote online. However, 4-years NCD is a minimum requirement with them.

Arnie,

That's funny... I thought that the 300 GE was discontinued in 1994-95, when they switched to the G320 (and stopped importing RHD G-Wagens into the UK altogether). Can your car have been a 1994-95 model only registered in 1997? In such case, the official name of the car should be G300 and not 300 GE, since the change in name was made in 1993.

Some information will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Jesus,

Sorry, its a slip of the keyboard!

The car is an August 1996 registration. and most of the plastic parts and wiring looms that have a date stamp, show either late 1995 or early 1996 dates, so I think that the car was actually manufacturerd in 1996.

Having said that, it used to be a MB Milton Keynes demonstrator and underneath had plenty of evidence of water, mud and offroad use.

As you know, the G320 was never imported to the UK or built as a RHD and I think that the one I have was one of the very last built to the UK 300GE formula. The G320 spec would not have been homologated for the UK.

The interior has the newer cloth pattern that was offered on the G320, but the dash is of the older 300GE design with some of the swicthgear, such as the difflock buttons, of the newer push-button variety rather than the older rocker-switch version. The vehicle is and SWB version and the rear fold-down seat has a 50/50 split, while the front seats have a newer type of lower frame which is not as good as the original ones.

The engine is identical to the M103 used in the earlier G's, but other items such as the ABS brake-block are of a newer design. Also the whole engine bay, axles and transmission seems to have been coated with a clear-gold laquer, I suppose for added protection.

The inscription on the back is "G300".

So yours is NOT a 300 GE but a G300, as it was renamed in 1994.

Yours is the latest made G300 RHD that I am aware of. I bet that it has the 7 1/2 x 16, 5-hole alloys, but does it come with a driver's airbag? I was very excited to see in our latest AGM at Rockingham Castle last October what I thought was one of the latest G300 RHD (see pictures). This G was obviously immaculate.... is yours as nice-looking as this? If you could send me a couple of digi pics, and love to post them in my website.

Cheers,

Jesus,

I'll try to send some pics. It does have a driver's airbag, the same wheels that you mentioned and looks similar to your pictures, with colour-coded wheel arches. The colour is "smoke silver" and the interior is anthracite (cloth, not leather). I had a S/H '91 SWB 300GE before that, but when I saw this one on the dealer's forecourt, 1.5 years old and at a good price, I did not waste any time.

Just like I thought...... very very few RHD G-Wagens have driver's airbag, mostly G500s and 290GDTs but very very few G300s. You are indeed a lucky man!

Send those pics! I would like to see it too.

Can I be brash and ask how much you paid for it? Sounds pretty close to my ideal G.... if I could find one.

Hi, Guys,

I'm off on business for a week, but I'll do the pics as soon as I return. (I paid just under £20k, in Nov 1997, from what is now MB London. It was a vehicle that they were selling for MB Milton Keynes.)
