I have a leaking injection pump on my 460 300gd. Sometimes when the engine is running normally steady drips of fuel can be seen coming from under the pump at the gasket where the back section bolts on. (won't start without help) I think what 's happening is that the chamber drains of diesel over night and it needs to be primed with the hand pump before it will start. - This dosn't happen every time the vehicle is used.
The car runs normally otherwise. has anyone any Ideas?
Im thinking about removing the pump and renewing the gasket, but I have a feeling that it will be something more.

460 or 463?

Bill: Just a quick one... in your profile, you state a 463 as your vehicle whereas in this post you mention a 460 series. Which one is correct?

Cheers

Injection Pump Leak om617

Yeh! I have a 1985 460 300 gd also. which should have been sold by this time, but once the pump problem is sorted and the back bumper it will be gone, I hope.
Sorry for the confusion.

Bill :)

gasket

Bill, I have no mechanical knowledge myself but I once observed my mechanic remove the back end of the pump (bulkhead end) to fix a problem when my linkeage fell apart and there was nothing in there except lube oil, he replaced the gasket which I'm sure was rubber but there seemed to be nothing in there to do with fuel, when I drove lgv's I seem to recall that in addition to the fuel pump there was also a lift pump which dealt with the flow of fuel and the pump with the metering of it so to speak, remember I could be talking out of my bum!

Leak on fuel pump

Thanks Guerdeval !
Removed the pump, and the end sectionwas just as you said, ful :D l of oil.
The leak turned out to be the union for the fuel return line. So now the engine is running perfectly. :D

Thanks for your reply.
