Got a crack in near side headlight lens in my G500 1999 from a stone probably. Other than getting complete new headlight from MB (assuming they're available?) is there any alternative that anyone's aware of? eg can I get just the glass and fit to the headlight or are there any other headlights that will work whilst retaining original looks as far as possible.

Thanks.

Re: Headlight Lens

Yes, all headlights are available from MB and probably not as expensive as you might think.

If you have the Hella-branded versions, with the Fresnel (patterened) glass lens, then there are certain VW golf versions which will fit with or without headlamp adjusters and which may be a little cheaper. If you have the version with the clear front, then maybe only through the dealer.

Yep...the VW golf mk2 is the same, used these for my 460 as then, the MB one was silly money.

As above. If your adjusters still work and you want to retain them, then it's MB only. Otherwise VW Golf

Ahha - hijacking this thread slightly - my adjusters do not appear to work.

Is that fixable?

Is it economical?

What's involved?

Nice to have everything that was originally fitted up and running properly

Re: Headlight Lens

The adjusters are a self-contained hydraulic system. The rotating knob moves a plunger and the adjusters are like slave cylinders. The advantage is that it is precise and immediate. The disadvantage is that, like all of them, it eventually leaks and become inoperative and un-fixable. A new one will not last long either, by all accounts.

Some people replace with electric system from Vito etc.

Re: Headlight Lens

I see the note about the vw lense  fitting a 460 but do you think it will fit an early 463?

Thanks

Re: Headlight Lens

All the 460 and 463 have different types of lights depending on the year

460 have up to 84 ish Bosch

from 84 to 88 ish Hella H4

89 ish onwards Hella H4

463 have the same late 460 lamp up to the mid 90's

Then a few type after that before the later Xenon units

Some Bosch some Hella obviously...

There are around 10 different lens listed for the 460's, not all interchangeable

Not sure which of the models the VW type will fit....probably the 84 - 88 models?
