I have taken off the Headlamp metal cowling with the screen wash jet attached to clean the headlamps.

The first one was fine, cleaned the glass and the surrounding area put the cowling back 5 minute job.  The other side when I removed the surround and the rubber seal the glass lens fell off in my hand.  I cannot see now what holds the glass lens in place on the headlamp reflector unit. I put the Glass lens  back on, held it in place, then the round rubber seal and then the cowling but it is loose enough to drop out !!

Am I missing something or is the glass bonded to the headlamp reflector and this one has come loose ?

Your help as always very much appreciated,

MrB

Hi,

Just to add, this is the glass lens only with absolutely nothing attached to it.

The front glass is bonded on and it's a fairly common failure with old headlights. You can try to re-attach with a special loctite adhesive for glass or try with a bead of clear, low modulus, silicone sealant and allow to set before use. .... Or buy a new onefrown

Re: Headlamp Glass/Lens assembly

Hello Arnie,

Thank you once again for the information, I have used a clear Silicone for the time being to keep me mobile.

I have read a few posts and see that non MB headlights are available at a better price but not sure exactly what to buy.  Any tips or part numbers here would be a help.

Regards,

MrB

Some details here:

I think the alternative  is a VW Golf headlamp, but that does not have he attachment for the aim adjuster mechanism - if yours still works, that is.

Re: Headlamp Glass/Lens assembly

One of mine became detached a few months back... cleaned up the edge where it fits to the rest of the lamp and use Araldite rapid to glue it back on  ..once it had set (15mins) i sealed around the edge with silicon sealant to prevent any water ingress..... make sure its the right way up when you stick it back on ( it aint coming off again!!)....also before i did...took opportunity to clean the inside of the glass.... it works perfectly..and looks a little newer that the other one!!
