This is the best invention after edible underwear!

For those who don't know what the Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) is, let me explain: the EPC is a piece of software developed for Mercedes-Benz. When you go to buy a part for your G-Wagen -or indeed ofr any other Mercedes Benz vehicle- your MB dealer will look up in the computer to find the reference of the part, to enable the order of the part from MB central warehouses either in the UK or in Germany.

The problem is that reference finding is time consuming for obvious reasons and unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz dealers (with notable exceptions) are not sympathetic to beggars who turn up in twenty-something-years-old rustbuckets, when they can rip off the city bankers with the £ 100 k-plus CL55 for service. On top of that, it is slightly embarrasing to find out the reference of the part in question and to be told the price - that would be 300 pounds for one wheel rim, Sir, shall I order it for you, Sir? - to have to tell them: no, thanks, perhaps next month when I get my (meagre) annual bonus!

If you only had the part number, you could go to the relevant MB Germany website (see http://www.gwoa.co.uk/node/61 and obtain an indicative price so that you can save yourself the trip to the dealer (and the embarrasment).

Until today, you could get a buy a (pirate???) copy of the G-Wagen's EPC from a well-known US G-Wagen specialist for a small fortune ($85), but that one is the 1999 version and still an (illegal???) copy. But now I have just gotten myself the November 2003 version for just € 44.08 Euro (£ 30 or so) directly from Germany. How? Well, I shall post details of this in the GWOA members-only section of this forum.

Edible underware seems like a good idea but like everything else it depends on where the idea is applied

One could take offence at this remark  , but one has'nt  I'll need to get my username patented. Fat cigars and rolling hands unfortunately go hand in hand with the car trade and many unfortunate people get ripped off. It does'nt bother me at all to reject a request for funny money for an item which I think is over priced or poorly made as there is usually an alternative out there somewhere

My last information : 38 Euro. You could go to the next dealer and order just an official one. Sometimes you find them on Ebay and the price tey ask for is incredable high. I have seen them advertising from 75 to 95 Euros ....

Klaus:

Uh Oh. Unless you can flout German VAT, which you wouldn't because you wouldn't want to starve good old Herrn Shroeder of his much needed tax-EUROS, you -and I- would end up paying € 38 + € 6.08 (16% German MwSt or VAT) = € 44.06.

That is if they don't give you a discount!

What versions of Gwagen does this cover????

Mortinson,
I have a 2002 G500 and I was wondering if this disc covers my G? If so, could you email me information on where I can purchase this Disk and the cost in US Dollars. Your reply will be much appreciated. :D

Now I have found that you don't need one EPC for each "baumuster" or GWagen series.... I heard that Mercedes would include various models in the same EPC but would only sell one keycode to access a particular model in the EPC.

Digging in the internet, I found that the EPC that I have CDDB23 of November 2003 includes the all parts/chassis number information for the W460, W461 and W463 G-Wagens as well as the A-Class (W168).

This is to prevent people from buying 3 EPCs to cover all G models when all the data are included in one!

Cheers
