Hey, guess what... I have been too busy trying to share as much as I could with other G-Wagen enthusiasts that I have completely neglected the introductions. Most of you already know me... I am a Spanish expatriate trying to make a living in Blighty, resident of the countryside in Surrey and representing the GWOA for the South and lovin' it.

This is my older 460 300 GDS, which I sold to Marius, brother of Andro, a GWOA and forum member:

And this is my newer 463 300 GDS which I am still repairing to former glory:

As you can see, ours is a Mercedes-only household

For those who have never dared, you can see many more pics in my personal G-Wagen website.

Enjoy!

What colour is your 463? And what colour does mercedes call it? What number is it for ordering?
I have had many an argument out here with people on the subject of the colour of my one, it is the same as yours.

Thanks,,,,,,Martin

Guess what?

Martin:

It´s Achatgrün or Agate Green. I have the code somewhere... I believe from the top of my head that it´s 8150. In the meantime it would be a good idea if you could get yourself your car´s datacard, where you´ll see the codes of all the standard and optional equipment. It´s got to be there.

It's second-hand

It's second-hand, though it looks as new.

Paid as much for fitting as for the bull bar itself because my mechanic had to drill eight holes in the bumper to fit it. Price was a real gift which I am not going to reproduce here to avoid prople feeling real bad.

The real bugger is that I rang my insurance to be covered with tht bullbar and they sent me a supplement of £70 yearly

Hi Jesus,
I think you'll find there is quite a good reason for that £70 premium hike.

In my experience, bull bars do more damage than they prevent. For example, in the unlikely event that you slightly lost control in an off-road situation - heaven forbid! - and the vehicle slid gently into a tree, the bull bar bends back and inflicts damage not only across the whole front end, but also to the bumper mounting points with varying degrees of severity. Had you not had a bull bar (in this entirely hypothetical case, you understand), you'd have possibly got away with a minor ding on the wing. Mind you, that depends on several other factors as well, like vehicle velocity and the mass of the tree. Just a thought to cheer you on your way.

I think if the bullbar has been damaged at all then the impact would have caused more damage to the vehicle had the bullbar not been there. But I can see some situations where it possibly would do as Quercus says ( if you were to catch it on something when reversing or the like ) but think your vehicle is more protected with it, than without. It's just another excuse for insurers to up your premium.

What you say is undoubtably true, but up here on the single-track roads deer-strikes are fairly commonplace, and when it happens there is little one can do about it as they tend to cross the road a few yards in front of the vehicle. Even travelling at 30mph one just does not have the time to make any sort of evasive action.

The difference in damage to vehicles fitted with and without bull-bars is dramatic. One without bars will suffer substantial body damage as against a slightly bent bull-bar.

I don't have them fitted, but thought I would put the other side of the argument.
