As this place is the font of all knowledge regarding G wagons ...seriously though I find this the most informative forum for G wagons anywhere, excellent work and words here.

I need some assistance to locate a panelbeater who would be skilled enough to repair the leading front edge of my W463

bonnet. There is some rust coming through and I would very much like to have this repaired by a skilled person,I used to have an older 'old school' panel man ,but now passed away.(very selfish)

Am based between London and Suffolk ,and would prefer to cut out the affected areas and ;let in' some new metal which does require some skill,I am aware that the repair may need attention in the years to come, but would like to do a very good job now that will last.

A new bonnet is prohibitively expensive and would be wasted on an otherwise clean original.

any ideas ?

Thank  you

Get on German eBay and locate a 2nd hand bonnet. Presumably you need more than a bonnet?

I agree

Get a mint non re painted or repaired bonnet and spray to suit

The only way with rust is to cut it out and re plate bad bits or rust will return Done enough classics for people and very few listen. The ones that do are happy and have a happy car with no rust from repairs

If its not holed and metal is good and not too thin a sandblast to remove all rust and a god paintjob will also cure the problem as good as new

If you can clean and totally seal the bare metal from air you wont have any rust

Its just finding people to do the job correctly to ensure a rust free panel for years to come

Ask around and get some pics of their work and jobs they have done in the past

agree too, better getting a straight bonnet even if you repair it, the labour cost by the time its done you could have a good one
