Hi Arnie

Depending on your licence you may not need an HGV licence because they are under 7.5 tons.  On your standard licence if you have a C1+ E or a D1+E category you can drive a vehicle up to 7.5 tons and if towing have a maximum gross train weight of 12 tons, as long as the trailer and load do not weigh more than the vehicle.

I drive my Unimog on my normal car licence and it weighs 6.8 tons. The maximum I can tow on the road is 5.2 tons including the trailer although the Mog is capable of towing up to 20 tons !

Mine is registered as an Agricultural vehicle which means no tax or MOT required and I can run it on red diesel.

It is unfortunately not in quite as good condition as the ones in the auction .

I am looking forward to having some fun in the snow with it over  the next few days.smiley

Thanks for the information. You have a lovely collection and the space to run around in them, which must be great. I saw (http://www.unimogs.co.uk/)  that they were from 4 to 7 tonnes, depending on configuration, but was thinking (incorrectly) that a standard license was limited to 3.5 tonnes, So good to learn that it is possible. It's very tempting indeed. I wonder what collection they came from to be in such good condition? maybe the MB museum itself, which is where the auction is being held?

I kind of like the older, orange one.
