Re: Glad to see the forum back

so glad to see the forum back up again but i do have one gripe...

the one bloody summer i have off for years to have guilt free forum browsing and some bugger takes the site down, oh the irony!!!!

nice to be back though, good work to those involved, cant have been easy transferring over all the useful and the even greater number of purely banter posts!

raising my glass of g&t,

Tom

Yep, looks great - quite a nice layout. I think I should actually join GWOA properly again!
Question - did usernames/passwords get compromised and please give us the gory details of what happens when your site gets hacked, and the pain.
How to get the space out these comments too?

Re: Glad to see the forum back

Basically the previous site had been running for about 6 years on an open source content management system.

Unfortunately that particular CMS fell out of favour and there were no more security updates created for it.

As such someone managed to get in and use the server as a host to send out spam. This didn't affect anybody's personal details so don't worry as they never gained or tried to gain access to the database.

The upside is that it allowed us to fully upgrade the website and introduce a host of new features which we hope will bring more value to members.

Working on the space issue....

BTW - not sure if everyone was checking daily to see if it was live but had about 6 people logged in in first 5 mins the site went live!! Then about an hour later has been averaging 10-15 people logged in since then! Dedicated or what?

Hear Hear !!
We have been a long time waiting, and unfortunately I missed the AGM because of vehicle problems (not with my G-Wagen of course) where I hoped to find out more.

First impressions are that it looks fresh and modern, and I will now have a more in-depth browse around to see what there is.

Re: Glad to see the forum back

ian, the air was second hand, i bought a mate an ipad and did the swap, then ordered the imac after the summer to make the most of back to mac, so i can access data from anywhere, and i now run the new apple tv from it which is great. as for the iphone, i can get all my medical textbooks on it in electronic form, which is great on placement for referencing, id need a g to carry them around otherwise and infection control would have a field day! but yes since june its all gone a bit apple mad, but did not want to get halfway through a research project im working on to then have microsoft throw a wobbly on me!

Wasn't there something about doctors get iphones for free? Have a friend who is a doc and she swears by hers only because there are so many medical apps and reference material on it...

Re: Glad to see the forum back

Nope it is a smaller size - I think that has something to do with optimisation for certain displays, the larger your display/higher resolution, the greater those blank spaces, but it also means someone looking at the website from an ancient platform (windows 98?) can still read it legibly...please correct me if i'm wrong..

Had an Apple II once upon a time. Took big floppy disks, had no harddrive and a whopping 64k of Ram...

Now I don't touch em... Much prefer Granny Smiths...

Re: Glad to see the forum back

Max, there is an app which is connected wirelessly to patient heart monitors, if it gets critical it tells the doctor who and at what rate the monitor is showing, anywhere in the hospital this is one of many very useful apps that monitor patients via iphone, so get use to it max, apple has changed the way we use our devices, you'll come to the darkside soon my son.

I knew that news readers would be using ipads as seen on BBC, now see the commentators on F1 using them, next it will be hospitals. You just wait and see.

May the apple be with you !

Re: Glad to see the forum back

I'd like to say a huge thanks to the guys responsible for sorting the new site (and forum) out.

I too am having layout issues on the forum (Chrome and IE9) but nothing terrible. Perfection comes with time - I'm just glad to be able to chat again.

My G hasn't actually moved since I last posted. I've been tied up with work, selling off various old VW's and a loft conversion but I put my neck on the block and stripped the fuel tank with a POR-15 restoration kit.

I've purchased a bullbar, replacement bumpers with wide caps, new tinted repeaters, tinted indicators, rear lights and rear 1/4 panels to match from a W463 plus various rubber seals, a snorkel, grille badge and mirrors.

I'm planning to paint the G satin black with gloss black wheels and trim.

Time to renew my membership IIRC too
