I thought you Gents and Gentesses might find this interesting (or not). I've been road testing the big G this week.

Lots of stopping on the roadsides with my spanner out. What? wink

The charts show where the power and torques at. For those that have not driven the 606 turbo.... What you waiting for! Way better than the 603 G350 turbo which was a very good drive before.  Almost twice as good as a non turbo 603 in my opinion. The power just keeps coming. Really revs nicely.

My original injection pump's mechanical and the turbo is standard. Boost is set to 14psi maximum. Apparent power is approx 180bhp

Welcome to a very exclusive club. No-one believes how different the performance is, and I don't mean speed, just the easy driveability this engine gives.

Well done getting it finished.....Enjoy

Looking good Delsmiley

I'm feeling inadequate now, being turboless.

Thanks and thanks. Yes Russ  you should add turbo makes a big difference. Just turned my boost up for higher boost at lower revs. More power. Less heat. Flying now!

Re: G606 v G603 engines

Hi

Yes did the same thing 2 years ago and i would not swap it for another engine

om606 is the way to go and such an easy install

The g wagons were made for this engine

I have well tuned 2 of my engines but have now reverted back to standard form, Well almost standard lol

I have kept mine electronic pump for fuel economy and smooth running with no smoke.

I mainly only wanted the electronic key for anti theft

Bad choice if i loose key but my g will still e there unless its trailored away lol

Awesome conversion and as i said bolts straight in with a few easy mods, i just feel sorry for gearbox having all that extra torque but it seems very happy up to date

I have a 463 and also have used a cone filter for a temporary measure, 2 years on its the same

I will make a  proper airbox soon for wading in deep puddles

I also went back to (almost) standard 606. Mine is kicking out just over 200bhp at the moment, and that is more than you could ask for. One piece of advice, don't fit a snorkel to a 606, they are way too noisy. The 606 sucks air through that snorkel, kicking up the biggest suction noise, blocking out your entire engine sound.

I tried attaching a video clip of me accelerating from 40-80, speedo speed. I run 35" wheels, so my speedo is out by about 15% making my acceleration 45 - 90, and of course limiting acceleration as well. Any advice how to show the video?

hi montreal. i totally agree with you  ! 606a is the bst engine conversion for a G 460 or 463.

my cabrio runs huge 37 tires with proper gearing and it shocks anyone thats in the passenger seat ! torque is abundant. my turbo is set to 1.2 bar.

i have recently completed a conversion on my 460 G. I fitted a 617a engine. about 120 ps . not bad in the 460. much better to drive than 230 AND a 280 GE too. and better on mpg too. but driving characters compared with my cabrio is chalk and cheese ! 606a is more powerful effortless...no character compared to the classic melody of the 617a but thats another story.

i reckon the 606a conversion will be even more enjoyable to drive in the 463 due to more appropriate gearing of the diffs and transfer case.

long live the 606a. 8 years on since the conversion and its still a gem.

Hi Leeu I would  suggest you up lift the video onto Youtube and post the link on the forum. I am told there is a facility on Youtube which only allows  those you send the link to view .
