Re: G55 badged or debadged

I've always prefer keeping a low profile, my badges came off the day I collected it. You don't want your neighbours thinking that you are showing off :)

In Germany, people de-badge the top models to appear more modest and discrete. In the UK people de-badge the base models.

I agree with Roly. I debagded my 500.....even took off the Mercedes stars and replaced the grill one with a Puch badge.......keeps prying eyes off it on travels. Ph

Re: G55 badged or debadged

De badged my 500 the day I took delivery. Personally nice not to advertise, stops some thug scratching the paint work through envy. Did that with all my AMG's in the past. Those who know, will tip a nod, those who don't will look foolish when it comes to the traffic lights....

Though you could take off the V8's and G55 and keep the AMG on. Thus making people think you have a non AMG engined and paid for the body work only..... then get them at the traffic lights (again)

Up to you, as it's horses for courses.

Re: G55 badged or debadged

Ahahah fair point!

For the time being I cannot be bothered putting them on, so all badges are safe in the boot. And I do also like the clean look...like someone said though you can clearly hear it coming.

Re: G55 badged or debadged

Badges are for there salesmen to charge more for different models..... who cares what anyone else thinks you are driving.... as long as you know... if i had a G55 i would de badge it... like the good people said... anyone who knows about cars will know anyway... who cares about those who dont !

unless of course you shelled out £200k on a G65 V12...!!cheeky

Spider: Twickenham i don't think so...i'm in the Chelsea area, drive 3 times a week to Chiswick (A4) to the tennis club and sometimes drive south west to our beach house in Bournemouth, but that's highway only (A4 M4 M25 M3 etc.)

Yeah I'd be embarrassed too if I had such a purposeless truck, sorry that's not true I'd cash it in for a more practical engined vehicle. The G55, G63 and any thing else with a V8 might sound nice and be swift in a straight line but it won't corner and unless modified won't work off road either...so what is the point of such a vehicle when others will do the posing thing better and possibly more cheaply too. If you want a fast V8 buy an R8, that has 4x4 and it does a few more miles per gallon

No need to worry about corners in a G63 :P

Finding your post embarrassing for the forum, pointless and unfriendly.  Drive what who wants to!

Not really welcoming to new members

Re: G55 badged or debadged

If u must know I bought the G55 for my wife and baby. I used to have a classic Range Rover which we restored but still wasn't as well built. Use to have a FFRR Supercharged, modern and all, but everybody has them, didn't feel special and did not have the nice BRRRRRR sound the G55 has.

And yes I do not go off-road, this is just our family family commuter. And it does a hell of a good job: you can fit a baby buggy in the back unfold!!

Note: for fun and wkends I do have a classic old R107 convertible as well as 2 Italian stallions if you must know.

Welcome to you too

Re: G55 badged or debadged

Trasher, as you fitted the G63 wheels, have you considered changing the set-up (springs/ shocks) to the G63 specification as well?  Supposedly (it is difficult to get reliable information) the G63 set-up is easier to live with.

hey not at all, they are actually the later G55 wheels...not the G63

indeed the ride is harsh, but on normal roads I/we find it acceptable...more so in the front than the back.

other than the wheels I'm keeping my G completely standard, enough other little projects with the rest of the stable.
