Hi there guys,

I'm new in this forum as well as a proudly new owner of a 1984 Mercedes 280 GE (W460). As now the vehicle is in the paint shop and I am wanting to give it a new face or face lift-up. My concern is: Do front grill kit and tail light from a G 500, 55 or W-463 fit in the 460?

Any opinion, comment will be much appreciated.

Yes, everything should fit with little trouble. You'll need the grill, headlamp surrounds and lower, side, fill panels. Rear lights also no problem.  But that's what everyone does. It's a matter of taste, and personally, I would leave a W460 as original as possible, as in my opinion, it has a lot of character just the way it was designed. Plenty do undergo this 'facelift', and then you are on a route with several possible front grill updates from 1990 to present. If you go that way, you will probably also want a front an rear bumper from a W463, as the 'upgrade' will not look right with the W460 skinny bumpers. Occasionally, these can be found on eBay Germany, as new units, complete with fog lights, for around euro-250, removed from new vehicles undergoing Brabus 'upgrades'.

this is an example of an extreme up grade, I'd say that it still needs fettling and sidesteps but its by no means the worst you'll see

Thank you Arnie. You're probably right to keep it as original as possible. Also, in order to do that I will need a quite few bucks. By any chance do you know where can I get the rubber headlight sorround? If the are still produced.

Thank you Adrian. The VIN number is 460-2381-7900-673. I will need them shipped to Miami, Fl. USA. From there I can get it easily to my country. We are talking about the rubber surround right?

Is it 230GE or 280GE? The mirror plate says 280GE.

If it's a 460 238 chassis then its a 230GE M102 4 Cylinder 8 valve SWB The SWB 280GE chassis are 460 232 and M110 6 Cylinder 12 valve Twin Cam You chassis serial number 900673 was a 1983 model in 9005 Jet Black with a M102.981 engine mated to a 5 speed manual Getrag gear box (4th ever produced), uprated springs, wide arches and 7 x 15" alloy wheels

Yes indeed, all you stated its true but a was confused with the fact that those plates were 280GE. Thank you very much gag.helme. Where did you get all that info?

Re: G460 face lift-up
Sorry I can't let any newbies reading this think that this block of lard is anything but a hideous monstrosity. The cheapo chinese body kit looks nothing like a G63 which is what it's trying to be. The rubbing strips are gone. the sill strips are also missing Nothing has been put on properly Tail lights in the bumper,.... really In my opinion it's a project donor car, something to tear apart and do properly. The genuine parts are all available on ebay to get the look spot on, or leave it W460 as it was produced. I think the silver G below is the pinnacle of good looks for the G wagen, styish but not blingy! We all buy Gs because we love em, why buy one and bugger it up with cheap rubbish, the factory get it right with styling all the time, keeping the look contemporary with the age, without changing the body shape. This doesn't just happen at the bottom end of the market, just look at the mess Hammann make of their customers Gs The black one is mine A very opinionated Gordon

Re: G460 face lift-up

Agree with Gordon, Cheap body-kits are best left alone. The original G design is a product of the seventies, with straight lines and prominent angles in the design. many body-kits attempting a 'chunky' and  'rounded' look just don't work for me. I think the 460 is great as it is:
