My 2004 G400 has just started flashing up a light malfunction on the dash stating that the tail lights (both) are not working and back ups are being used (lower wattage on the brake lights). The bulbs and the wiring seem fine so I am assuming this is a system fault? Any experience of this anyone? Thanks.

Re: G400 - Rear light fault

Had this issue on my old g400cdi.

change old bulbs in both lights, before you do that, clean the contacts for each bulb, use contact spray as well, clean wires inside light boxes. You should then reset the malfunction on computer once you have performed it. It's probably where the metals are corroded inside, cheaper metals were used in later w463's. G400's are notorious for electric issues.

had a problem with the common rail diesel injection system yet? Or leaking DIesel issues in high pressure system on top of engine.?

front electric seat malfunctioning?

It has the wiring loom of w203 c-class, the only way is cheaper! They thought.

can of worms has been opened........  headrest in drivers seat works periodically (motor?). Also, auto function on lights not working (faulty sensor?). Anything else I should keep an eye out for?

Re: G400 - Rear light fault

Eh yea the whole car, the key which is eis controlled switch will give up sooner or later, they last upto 80-120,000 miles ish.

seats, look under driver seat, raise it up and put all the way forward then open rear passenger door behind that seat and look for a control module box....... Switch the boxes around you then can control the driver seat from the passenger side, see if the head rest goes down from the passenger side switch. Then you switch back the two Switches from under the driver seat, should go back to normal.

As got light sensor this is built in top glass area, check for condensation there or cracks!

ok remove the black cover behind rear view mirror, get contact spray and apply lightly, clean off access and put back together and see if this solves the light issue.

not working? Then take out switch from dash and see wiring condition at rear, apply contact spray and try again.

regards
