Hi G wagon owners

Recently made some moulds for a company who are well known worldwide for suspension bush upgrades

If they were to manufacture all the suspension bushes that are a fortune to replace would anyone be interested

When i discussed prices they were gob smacked

We have made some intricate moulds on cnc machines for them and they agree they are very good.

I did not want to say but i am sure these would be a good seller for g wagon owners. They would be in four grades

and a perfect fit. I dont want to say think of doing them if there were no interested parties

Its their job to advertise but wanted to give them some feedback

Sounds good to me.

As you say, a set from MB cost a fortune.

Great Idea. You maybe interested to know the last set of trailing arm bushes I purchased from Mercedes had made the UK stamped on the box.

Great idea, can you do a complete kit with anti roll bar bushes as well? Thanks!

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

It might be on the cards

Its just if they will go for it

If its a no i might make my own items for bushes and more. Its the people who have no idea how to fit the important ones that worries me. I could make them perfect but would get some bad comments so i am holding back a bit at the moment

I will keep you informed as soon  as anything comes in the pipeline

I'd have a set of the trailing arm bushes if they were reasonably priced.

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

Hi g wagon g - did anything ever come of this?

Annual service just completed and garage pointed out that my rear trailing arm bushes are "slightly worn/slightly split" - usually that's code for "they need replacing at next service". And if those are on their way out then others probably won't be far behind.

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

Yes its been a while

I forgot al about that post as my expensive originals are still ok

The guy left and moved on but they still buy our moulds

I could ask or we could make our own on the gwoa

I could make the moulds but we need some sizes of original bushes

If i made the moulds they would do it for really good money

We then make the sleeves etc to fit

I said this previous but if someone had a kit of poly bushes we could measure up and make perfect out of soft medium or guess what the hard ones

We would not copy but would make new type ones better by far

No One came back to me so i did not go further with the issue so i need some input as i dont want to go to the trouble of doing it for only a few people

I need new bushes and sizes. I am confident and i will make the rest that will be perfect

I have had many thoughts on the issue

My main thought was

The aftermarket bushes fit in arms rubber to metal. Fine but i think a sleeve in arm will keep it original and wear free. Than make bushes to size

I dont want to wear my arms too much lol

Sleeve to press in arms and bushes to suit

Bushes wear and just fit new ones cheap

Or divert to original and press sleeves out and arm can have original bushes

I dont know why people did not show more interst

Perhaps they run g on road and just accept the MOT fail and buy new bushes

I dont know just advise me

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

I am sure when scouring eBay found some polybush type bushes in Czech Republic, about £120 for full axle set, no idea on quality , though that almost half price of original, tho in fairness do last 20 years, tho perhaps slightly less if you hammer it on tracks!

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

DesertService.com were doing full polybush kits a few years ago, not sure if they still do ? I think orce.de were considering the same or at least part sets.

Cheers Gavin

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

Its a tough one as the genuine ones are hellish expensive but do last a good while

I need some more feedback whether to make any or not

Can anyone find any info on aftermarket kits

I think old man emu does a kit but i cant find it again

There are a few kits around but i should of saved the links

We could have a choice of soft medium or hard material

How hard can it be

8 stainless steel sleeves,,, 16 bushes and    8 spacer tubes for trailing arm bolts

Look on land rover poly bush kit fitting and give me your thoughts and who is interested

I had my car mot done and they never noticed the play in bushes at 2 test stations

When i got my pass i showed them how knackered they were and how to check them

Jaking the car under axle or chassis shows no play as they are under load even when well worn

The spacer tubes just fell out of all my bushes

How to check

Get someone to get under car and look at axle to trailing arm bushes

Grab gutter rail and rock car side to side violently

Get it rocking well and any play will be easily seen

Mine were proper worn out but i found this is the best method to check

The front ones have the most grief because of the anti roll bar so check the front first

                                  Happy Days

                                            G

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes
I've been following this with interest. I need a bush kit for mine. Surely the bushes can't be unique sizes? Has anyone got the measurements please? They must be common to other vehicles surely? Thanks!

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

They are unique to the G, also back bushes look the same as front but slightly wider. Hope you have access to a good press or it's virtually impossible

Re: g wagon trailing arm bushes

As you say jason ,yes they are very unique and are sizes that cant match with other bushes off the shelf

I think people are mistaken with the price of original ones

They are expensive and there are 8 of them just for the radius arms

Are they around the 40 each price or have i forgot. I remember they were expensive

If anyone has the time to research it and find a bush thats very close i could make sleeves so they fit in radius arms. That would be very cost effective

I said i would reply on the 50mm mercedes genuine steering damper

Well its had some grief and its still ok so have not fitted the other yet
