yup! see posts on ....."New Boy needs help" Good luck to all!
Mark,
I'd like to buy it!
It has not arrived yet and the auction is less than 2 weeks away.
I've seen the picture with the big house before, so assume it's an old one.
Cheers Rob
Mark
new pictures added to site today, as I thought not as nice as original pictures.
I would really appreciate your opinion.
Looking to buy an 84/85 rhd soft top to take to my holiday home
kind regards
Rob
thanks Mark, not sure I like it now and agree with back door and no rear seats!
most of the convertibles delivered to the UK had no rear seats, some agricultural and probably related tax angle.
I'm not the person to be giving advice - I really don't know enough about Gs and I certainly wouldn't think about buying one without having a proper look.
Having said that, I don't like the checkerplate on the inside of the back door.
Am I wrong - or does this not have any rear seats?
What you really need is a GWOA member who does know about Gs and that's based somewhere near King's Lynn that would go and take a good look at it so you know if it's worth making the journey (assuming you're nowhere near Norfolk). There are some really nice and helpful people on here and lots of them just like looking at Gs so you could be in luck.
Checker plates on back door original, all looks as it left the factory including the spare wheel holder behind driver seat ... A good original old truck ....
Fred thank you ! Anything else you could help me with ? Will it go faster than a snail ? Kind regards Rob
what engine does it have.?
The G looks quite original, and as has been mentioned, there were quite a few of these sold with no rear seats and spare-wheel carrier on the inside. I think it was due to lower tax. However, all the fixings are there, if you find and wish to add a rear bench seat. The soft-top has a tendency to shrink, making it difficult to zip the rear panel, which is probably why it's shown unzipped. the rear checker-plate panel is original - on newer versions it is hinged and houses the toolkit and first aid inside the tailgate..
Looks very nice for its age, but engine and chassis need investigation.
Arnie, it's a 2998 Diesel

do you know anyone who could take a look at it for me?
thanks
Rob
Should be good, then. The 617 diesel is a very nice engine.
Unfortunately, I don't know who might look at it for you, but in the first instance you could ask the seller to send some detailed pictures of the:
- engine compartment
- the 4 corners of the chassis, showing springs and mounts, brakes, dampers etc.
- the underside of the chassis, showing transmission components
- more detailed pictures of the body and interior
You might also ask the seller whether he can get you an inspection report from either the AA / RAC or the local MB dealer, but you may have to pay something for this.
Also, ask the seller if there are any known issues or areas of the body showing rust.
£9,000 - £10,000 is a relatively high price, so the car should be in very good, if not pretty-much perfect condition for that money.
thanks , from experience the RAC/AA won't look at anything over 10 years old
I will ask the local MB dealer , good idea if they'll do it
Doubt the local MB dealer will have a clue.....
tend to agree with you! do you know anyone that might do it? thanks
mark, will do , the auctioneer is being very helpful?!?
New thread being done now!
I recall someone here, in a similar situation, had a 460 inspected by Halfords and it was surprisingly ( for me) quite a detailed report.
thanks I'll try but think i'd have to take to them?
Ah, so the same G that you were interested in a while ago - what can you tell us?
