Just been searching for a renewal quote £149 for 12 months.crying

Seriously, G Wagens could be the most economical car available. Zero depreciation, maybe appreciation, built like the proverbial brick out house, service parts cheap as chip's.

OK only 25mpg on a good day and if anything G specific breaks it can be pricey.

But compared to anything new or newish no contest.

Hi Russ

It might be worth a try getting your insurance through one of the cashback websites, some of them are giving up to £50  return on your premium.

OK it was early in the morning when I read this so have probably got the wrong end of the stick (What a Rip Off) but I think £149 is a pretty good deal.

Or maybe that's what you really meant when you said "But compared to anything new or newish no contest"

Russ, I agree. I've seen the guys at work leasing Mundanoes and similar for years. Depreciation on a new car is enormous, £5k PA on a repmobile. How's the 606 going?

I've had a few on pcp deals on the basis that I receive x as a car allowance and as long as I then hand over slightly less I'm OK.
But I'm now in the disposable car thinking (not the G Wagen of course) I'll never have another new car.

The 606 is going great the more miles I put on it the better it goes. I've covered maybe 10k miles since the swap.
I keep pondered about turbo"ing it but as long as you keep it >2k it flies (in relative terms!). So who knows.

All my time and money is going on a house at the moment, needs to be on the market and sold in the new year.
Then the next project is going to be a Sprinter 4x4 camper. So in other words the G will stay normally aspiratedsmiley

Ha! an there I was ready to argue with the content of this thread title.

Cos even in NI

Der unheard of Steyr Puch costs a mere £168.00 per year, and this with the otherwise expensive for Car Insurance UFU too!

Re: G Wagen Insurance - What a Rip Off

I know that most of you already know this but.

Received my insurance renewal documents today - and premium had gone up from £176 to £250 (that's a jump of 40% for those of you without a calculator to hand).

So I phoned up the insurance company/broker and asked if this was the best price they could do before I went to the trouble of hunting around for a better price. Put on hold for 2 minutes and they came back with a revised price of £190. All very pleasant, no hassle and a ten minute phone call ended up saving me £60.

I now do this with every insurance renewal and have yet to come across any company that wasn't happy to reduce the premium by a substantial amount. Worth giving it a go.

Re: G Wagen Insurance - What a Rip Off

i read that their excuse for this practice is that if you have not had an accident in the first year, you are then more likely to have it in the next year. I don't think this argument holds up in the mathematical sense, and like you, managed to get my premium for the second year reduced to marginally higher than the previous year.

However, the insurance companies pay an average of £60 for each referral from Confused or Compare the Market etc which is what (more than) pays for the toys or other 'freebies'  they give out.

I guess, they figure they can make the money back on the second year.
