G-Wagen Headlamps
I guess everybody in this forum know this by now but just in case... This is particularly interesting if you need to replace the headlamps to your newly imported LHD G-Wagen to pass the MOT...
The G-Wagen headlamps are pretty expensive (some £50 each, the type without height adjustment, even more for the one with it). However, they are exactly the same as the VW Golf MkII (without height adjustment).
This means two things: you can go to any Hella/Bosch factor and buy them if you order them as the VW part. If you tell them that it is for a G-Wagen they will be unable to help you (it is not quoted in the books as for a G, only as for the Golf and some VW/MAN light truck) They will be some £26 each.
But you can also pop in a scrapyard and buy them from there for very little money (I paid £10 for one in perfect condition).
For the 463 series with height adjustment the VW headlamps will also fit. Only trouble is that you will lose the possibility of adjusting the height from the driving seat but that's all.
jesus and all,
please note that it is in deed possible to pass the MOT just with black stickers on the headlamps for a couple of pounds.
i did it about two years ago, when i imported my G560 to the united kingdom.
ok, ok, may be not a 100% kosha on the long run, but just to get that stupid MOT-Certificate it works.

Straight swop. in fact any 14" headlamp Bosch Hella or Lucas will fit. I am investigating the possiblity of fitting BMW with the snazzy ring side light effect.
The golf 3 is the snazzy lens with vertical lines acrooss it. gives excellent ilumination too.
Similar thing with the 460 G-wagen, I've got 1982 300GD which was failing MOT on cracked headlamps, I ordered parts through Mercedes, they were coming from Germany, delayed, delayed.... I needed the MOT before leaving the UK and ran out of time waiting for Mercedes, I went into a motor factors nearby in desperation (having already phoned several with no success) where your man looks up G-wagen in his book and says "Oh yes, same as the VW Beetle" and they are.

What was the outcome on the BMW lights, and what's a snazzy ring side light effect???
I find that the orignal headlights are well to dim... my petzel headlamp is brighter.
If any of you have a set of LHD headlamps ( ones that dip towards the right for european/North American driving) and wish to part with them, please email me directly with the details and price that you wish.
Cheers,
Gordon
Are the ZKW headlamps available in left hand dip i.e. headlamps suitable for UK? If they are can anyone supply a part number? Thanks, Rick.
See that question was answered in a previous post, that didn't come to my attention when I did a search. See http://beta.gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=2001

darren
try mark vulture darren, he had a set of clear lense 460 headlamps.
and yes, they are the mk1 golf outer lights mate.
if you have no luck, eurocar parts have them,oe hella too.
Hey, it works if your MOT tester is not as picky as mine! It works for the first year as I convinced him that I was only staying in the UK for a few months and that the car was thus only imported temporarily!
But when I had to pass my second MOT the guys said sorry pal, you'll have to have RHD headlamps this time...
That's theway the cookie crumbles...
