Dear forum members.

It has come to our attention that the G Wagen centre as it now stands, is not the G Class Centre of a few years ago.

Please proceed with caution.

good call by the gwoa admin team .

this information is in the public domain and putting it up on our site is the right thing to do as this situation is confusing for somebody finding the website on an internet search engine and then using this 'ltd company' in the belief that it is the business  displayed on the website as the phone number and  location are the same .

I have first hand experience!  In essence they charged a lot and fixed nothing the first time.  The next time - why did I try again! (Tim Carnell's beast) very noisy prop shaft ... told me to drive it to them, 15 miles later there was  terminal bang.  Towed it home with my petrol 460.  They collected it (expensively) rang weeks later to say they would have to strip it before finding the problem and if they did that they would not put it back together without a very expensive fix.  It was brought back from them and sold to Mark Fillan who some of you might know.  There is young guy there who is very nice (and embarrassed about the situation).  Jeff on the other hand is simply a crook.

As I understand it "Jeff" moved on a year or two ago and the current principal is one Peter Bedford.

Does anyone have a more recent opinion on the work done by this workshop.

I appreciate people do not want to get into detail so a simply "yes I would use them again" or "No I would not use them again" is probably the best approach.

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

When i first got my g wagon i tried to contact the g centre

Never got a reply or an answer to the phone

From the above posts i am perhaps very lucky but i only wanted parts and no repairs so it would not of bothered me

We all make mistakes and if the propshaft repair is the only one to go by why are they in the wrong so much

They are guilty of not answering the phone and never responding to emails in my case

Please someone tell us why people should be so wary of the g centre

With just a few hints are there any happy customers who can comment????

Then make an assumption......

Somehow they got a mention as G specialists when Classic Car weekly did a feature on G a few weeks ago, mind you article was lacking a lot of info on potential G problems.

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

This topic has ended rapidly with no clear answers to the initial post

Any updates or whatever would be appreciated

G centre so bad so bad but no more views to back up the story only one bad incident

Come on guys this is not enough to go off and is little help

I dont want to stir up a hornets nest but a big thing turns out to be one bad job. The lady with the g wagon and the Irish guy only turned out to be one aweful mess. Did any get refunds or help???

Lets make an honest and clear view of g wagon repair centres that do a poor job

List all the good ones with good and all the bad ones with bad. Did they help sort the issues or did they turn a blind eye

Lets have it all and find places we can trust to care for our g wagons. Not just servicing or taking an old g wagon and simple welding and putting a newer bodyshell on it. Its only a few bolts and a paint job and people are amazed. Wake up to the real in depth issues that people struggle with

We sing songs and praises for other g centres but they are not all perfect reading on here, far from it

So many experts but do they really know all about g wagons???. I put myself up against any g 463 expert and i could hold my own but with older models i know nothing to be honest. Thats what people need is just to be honest. I could tell you loads about 463 models but nothing about 460 or 461 models

All i can say is the newer a vehicle is the more there is to know. Early g wagons look so simple like farm equipment but 463 models progress a bit in 1991 and again in 92 and in about year 99 they were totally different and so on

On here there is enough info to fix your g wagon and if you dont DIY there are people who can help

Tell it all please in simple terms people can understand or who enjoy spending time doing servicing their g wagon that is pretty easy even on a driveway

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

I think the reality is that there are relatively few G-Wagens around that it will be difficult for any garage to specialise on one vehicle type and be successful. They were not cheap vehicles to buy and they are not cheap to maintain if, like someone else said, you want everything 100%. The 463's have much in common with MB models of the 1980's, but how many people really understand they systems used on those cars, for example, the KE Jetronic injection, the early Bosch ABS, which requires test-boxes to diagnose etc.  Your best bet would be to find a specialist in vintage MB cars. if you have a W460 or your issues are with general servicing, then any good garage should be able to cope. Of course, if you want a full rebuild, then it will help to have someone familiar with how the bodywork is mounted, how to remove trim panels without breaking them and so on.,

For those who have a newer G-Wagen, post 2001, say, then it's again a different story.

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

Hi

My post sounds a bit harsh but it is not meant too, suggesting it is easy to work on and swap body shells is not straightforward but easier than a land rover. Basically there is all the help anyone could want on here and its a good forum with helpful people

Your right there are people who can help and i suppose if you can afford a new g wagon it will be going to the dealer anyway

I am sure everyone will be asking about newer models in years to come. I might be one of those people if i win some money or g wagons drastically loose money

Neither will happen i doubt lol

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

My view for what its worth is that if you know a Mercedes specialist who works regularly on w124's or w126's and the earlier w123 models they'll be fine to resolve most issues with the early w463's and the w460 models. The newer electronic cars post 2000 you need a man with a computer and you'll need a well stocked wallet

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

True

Does anyone know of a tidy g wagon in short wheel base preferably or a LWB in black. Must be year 1999 or a bit newer

My wife wants my new g purchase but cant put her private plate on it. The news did not go down well and the only option is to get a newer g wagon if there are any for sale at sensible money

There wont be any but i thought i would ask anyway if any of you guys know of any

What prices might i get one for that is sensible money

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

g-wagon g (21.04.17) is absolutely right.

We should all keep each other aware of the good and the bad out there. Although I don't wish to harp on too much about the rascals I have to say that I was one of several who got very badly burnt by the (English) fellow "P.N."  last heard of near Belfast.

When things did eventually come good  posted here (circa December 2015?) about my experiences and who was able to help.

At the time of purchase  I went in wide eyed and trusting and - four years later - have spent what to me are fortunes in time and money sorting things out. The upside is that I have learnt a lot getting my 460 SWB OM606A to where it should be and have met some wonderful folk along the way.

Another time, though, I would have been grateful to have been cautioned in advance about the dodgy character. I did try to check, but heard nothing to warn me.

I believe that things have now changed.

Good.

As for Caversham, I have tried quite a few times to source parts over the years and have never yet had a response. Perhaps this has saved me grief in the long run!

Let's shout about the good guys.

They hugely outnumber the rogues!

Take care out there.

N.

Gaz - another alternative, I think SpiderIV still has his LWB G500 for sale. It's also RHD and also black. And somewhat cheaper than the SWB version above.

Re: PLEASE READ. G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

Several years ago purchased a used speedo from G Class Centre for my 460 G. It did not work. Sent it back and they sent me another one, it also did not work. Life is too short to send it back again and get into something confrontational for a few pounds so got the original overhauled and it is fine (speedy cables is another story though!).

So would I use them again with their standards of customer care..................... .

This is a very old post.  The G Class Centre website is also very old (approx 2012) and the limited company liquidated in 2013.

That's doesn't mean they are not still trading as sole trader, but simply try contacting them and see.  Get a recommendation and check back here.

From Glasgow??? We stay in Argyll. During a southern foray we called in at Hodmore Farm *years* ago. Tried several times without success to buy spares from them. Would be curious to know what might have become of their set up.

Different setup Nick. That's Caversham G-Wagen or G-Wagen Ltd (not limited). The Worcester G-Class Centre was running for a while too. Also not limited. But may be trading quite well. We should know who it is. I'll dig around.

Yep. Used to be Mervyn Weaver. Hasn't been on here for years. Jeff Wood is another name there.(both on the expired companies House entry). Can't find any details about if they are still working or what they do now if so. Let us know!!

Aha! My mistake. Please forgive me. Jeff (?) bought my first G-Wagen from me... for buttons. It was an ancient 230GE, numberplate "MAO something" as featured on the cover of G-Wizz magazine back in the day, complete with cracked spotlamp. Rustbucket that it was, it never let me down. Ever. Does anyone know of its existence?

Re: G Class Centre. Malvern Worcestershire

Seems the G-Glass Centre is not responding.  No email, webform or phone calls answered.

It could be that the business is furloughed at the current time.  Curious to know what the work was that bedi was driving from glasgow to malvern was?  Steering on a 463, per other post.  Maybe he can update.
