Front Supporting Pipes in the 461's Chassis
Dears
Unlike 460 series, 461's chassis' supporting front pipes were cut like the syringe's tip !
(see item 11 on the photo)
just wonder why !

Looks like a "rough" cut from a gas-axe to me.
I think someone has done that for big tire clearance, not sure that is factory, although I vaguely remember seeing a factory 461 having that done, maybe a military 461 canadian with Hutchisons, someone else can verify this?
as suggested this has been done to allow larger tyres to be fitted. The pipes are squared off same as 460 series on a 461.
If you order a new tube from the factory now this is what you will get. Maybe Gav can figure out the part number?
This is the pipe on my 1998 Steyr Puch it looks original to me.

Maybe Gav can't
That Tube and the ARB top Bracket attached and also the Body Mount do not look available as spare parts from MB!!
I can find a number for the Body Mount that is the same further back... that would do if needed (Axel has had a few)
I can't find anything on the ARB Bracket as you know Eddie from experience Albert Bouma supplys those i assume from the quality directly from the OE manufacturer that supplies Graz?
The tube in the original post appears to have been cut afterwards although i have seen a factory one like that on a 461
Later 461's have the 463 set up without that tube...
Eddie where did you get your image as the background is the MB box and would have the number on it?
Gav
Will look further when i get a moment...
Gav.
The photo is "lifted" from an EBay reseller in Germany. The box could be just window dressing. but the part looks OEM to me as did the ARB parts supplied to me by Albert.
There must be a back door we haven't found yet
I retract my last post my 461 is cut like this too
duh
May be the cut in the first photo isn't original but I have seen about four 461s vehicles have this cut .I attach another photo for a factory cut
Usually I distinguish 460 ,461 & 463 by this pipe
Round pipe -----------> 460
Cut pipe -----------> 461
No pipe ------------> 463
However Gav informed that later 461's have the 463 set up without that tube...
Today I found this link which gives more explanations
