Hi

I did add this to my previous post but guess it got lost there.

Can anyone tell me the correct way to fit the front prop to the transfer box and axle. Where does the sliding joint go axle end or transfer end? maybe someone can have a look underneath for me. its a 1982 w460 lwb

Thank you

Normally splined sliding joint to axle. Some fit other way the logic being dirt/water doesn't enter the joint, but factory is slip joint at axle.

Re: front propshaft which way?

Well that wasn't so easy. I though I would be able to slip the propshaft in but it doesn't want to go.  Looks like I will have to drop the anti-roll bar.  The U-bolts here are pretty rusted on, before I get stuck in has anyone done this before and can offer advice?

Thanks

It'll go in,  jack up the chassis and leave the wheels on the floor, that'll give you more clearance

Thanks Gordon,

I released the anti roll bar and that worked a treat, but I think the transfer box is kaput as there was a big growl every revolution which I think means the bearing is finished, but I'll start a separate post for that!

Before you get too carried away, make sure the 4 wheel drive is fully disengaged, if it's still engaged it may be getting wind up

Jack up the rear wheels and see if the back axle will rotate, put the difflock in then you don't just rotate the other wheel

Hope this helps

Re: front propshaft which way?

thanks for the advice, I only drove it a few yards but it made the noise whether in SA or just S how far would you have to go to make sure it is disengaged? I'm a bit wary of driving it far in case it causes more damage.
