Front axle

The work and cost involved in reconditioning a front axle is so small in relative terms, just remove the one you have and recondition it. unless it has a fault that can not be repaired which is highly unlikely.
It is also not to dificult to recondition an axle in situ.

Good point...

First ensure that the axle has the same diffs as in your G-Wagen, second ensure that it comes from a 460/461 series and not from a 463 series (difficult but possible) since the diffs rotate in opposite direction to those on a 460 series, if you intent to fit the axle as whole.

latest development

Well ,I jacked it up to check for bearing play, there was some, but worse there was no resistance to turning,(similar to my own axle).
I opened up to find the cv joint in pieces,I am not sure what to do next,I expect these are not cheap.Maybe between my two axles I would have two good joints. The axles are compatible by my reasoning

you can buy CV joints for both 460 and 463 G-Wagens. You have to go to "G-Teile neu" >>> "Neuteile Vorderachse" >>> Antriebsgelenksatz Spidan VA ohne ABS >>> 2.11/ Sp-022690. The part in quoted at EURO 180 (some £ 124).
