Free Technical Manuals
Just a couple of links rescued from the older forum which I believe will be of interest to fellow users:
Training manuals of MB USA, to introduce technicians to the G-Wagen:
http://www.mercedestechstore.com/
Then >Access our ONLINE STORE! > 463 G-Class
Enjoy!
Anyway, you can still join the GWOA and have access to all the workshop and serive manuals for both your W460/461 and W463 for a symbolic (not shambolic) sum.
I'd like the workshop manual for mine. Can you please PM me and let me know how I can get hold of one, cheers.

Is joining the GWOA different from registering on the forum? If so, is there a link to it or how to do it somewhere?
I would kind of like a manual!
TIA
Si
on that note i have and i still cant access the members section?!
Tom
How does one go about getting a manual? I've joined the club now!
Cheers
Hi
I have just joined too :)
Where can we get access to , or purchase workshop manuals for a 463 300GES?
Hi, Jesus,
Just nit-picking, how come the front axle on the Interim fast attack veh does not belong to any "G", especially when you describe said vehicle as a 290 GDT etc.
Marcus
I can still open the files stored on that site.
Goto http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdfs/index.htm
Right click on the line/file your interested in
when the box appears roll down to "save target as" and save it locally to your system,
it then opens fine with acrobat reader.
Just trying to get some workshop manual detail for my 1991 300GES 463. The above messages don't lead to any 463 workshop manuals as far as I can see, and there isn't anything in the index for the GWOA site apart from a lot of basic info on the G500 variant of the 463. Forum searches don't seem to have any links to workshop manuals. Apols for this premumably naive question, but for example if I would like to find our how to remove the water pump on my 300 petrol engine, where can I find that detail or get help?
water pump removal.... please read your PM
Thanks for the info - I was rather hoping to find the official manuals when I joined the club, rather than being advised to rely on Haynes versions for other Mercs with the same engine.
Problem resolved and water pump removed, but that was just an example. I would in any case disagree with your suggestion of removing the radiator as this is complicated due the additional oil lines requiring removal. Removing the fan shroud is adequate for access, but the only way to get at the lower bolts of the water pump would appear to be to slacken off the steering pump and use a 13mm socket with a UJ and long extension.
Is there really no way of getting the official workshop manual for a 300GES? Seems a shame, and at least I would know how many hidden bolts to search out...
Official Maintenance Manuals are at
http://gwoa.co.uk/index.php?name=Content_2&pid=5
If you want Workshop Manuals then that is something different.
That is exactly my point. It is not "something different", it is a requirement of at least some members (evidenced by comments in fora) as well as myself. The reason I joined the club was to get access to workshop manuals, as the "GWOA Library" seems to list them, and your advertising wording mentioned access to manuals. The actual manuals are a list of servicing items, and I really don't need to know how often I should top up the screenwasher bottle on my G500 (if I had one). The "463 Info Access" section is top-level and very shallow info on G500's. Simply saying that G Class workshop manuals are difficult to get, and implying that is some well-known fact of life that we can all joke about, is hardly helpful.
The Maintenance Manuals are a lot more than checking fluid levels. They cover full service maintenance procedures for all 460s, 461s and 463s.
The 463 Info Access is G500 oriented but is put there as a reference as quite a few members do have post 2001 Gs for which this will be applicable.
The WIS which is what you are probably referring to is only available online via Mercedes as they do not offer printed documents due to the complexity of being able to serve the correct documentation for each individual vehicle VIN. It is impossible (both technically and legally) for us to offer it. However you can get older (updated annually) illegal copies from eBay (which as club we clear can not offer or condone) or you can subscribe to the online version directly with Mercedes.
The GWOA Library does not list Workshop Manuals that I am aware of - if so please indicate where and I will amend.
Dunno if this has been posted before but I just found this for the 460 online, might be useful to someone...
manualmadness.com/mercedes-benz-g-wagen-460-280ge-service-repair-manual/
Hit the big blue download button and it takes you to a page entitled: "Protected link package details"
Click the link under "Direct Links" and that will take you yet another page! Hit the download button under the title and (hopefully) it will start the download.
Once dowloaded extract the zip file, it'll then ask for a password for which you copy/paste in: manualmadness.com.
Right I'm off to print mine out...
Oh and just found this one:
manualmadness.com/mercedes-benz-g-wagen-460-maintenance-manual/
Same process for down loading etc
There might be others on there I haven't checked it's a case of "I'm alright jack!" :D
EDIT: There is quite a few other manuals on there but I don't know if they are useful or not for other models.
This when you click on "join the GWOA" button.
"Technical help from qualified personnel.Access to workshop manuals."
Seems fairly clear to me..you pay £25 and you have access to Workshop Manuals ..
Or is there another way to intepret this statement?
If not perhaps you should change it- as it could be considered misleading.
On the positive side to those who have joined, or are thinking of joining, the majority of members on site are very good people who are willing to pass on technical information and help in any way they can.
First part of above post was in answer to Maxwell Smart....
"The GWOA Library does not list Workshop Manuals that I am aware of - if so please indicate where and I will amend."
Thank you Sierra Tango, good link 'cos I found this there too:
http://manualmadness.com/mercedes-benz-g-wagen-463-service-repair-manual/
The only tedious bit is that it downloads as individual pages (hundreds of them once unzipped) and each requires to be opened with the pass word "manualmadness.com". That is probably just something I have done incorrectly. Even so, good call. Thank you.
I'm just glad its of use and that for once I could help someone rather than just taking from this site.
Don't know whats happened there with the password thing, mine opened in Windows Live Gallery as individual pages which is a bit of a pain (only a slight pain in the grander scheme of things tho!) without the need for the password each time. Nevertheless all good info and glad its been of help, personally I've only been searching for 7 years for this! :D
I think it's necessary to clarify the position in respect of technical publications available to members of the club.
Some members of the committee hold a variety of official maintenance and repair manuals for a large range of G Wagen models. Club members who have asked for the pages referring to a particular job on a particular vehicle have had them supplied either as hard copy or e-mail attachments. We do not supply copies of complete manuals.
This system has been operating effectively for a number of years. If you have any difficulty getting what you want contact me and I will try to arrange what you need. You must, however, be a club member, not just a forum member.
We have always aimed to have technical information available in the members section of the website. Our ultimate intention is to have a properly indexed system with an effective search engine. There are places where information can be downloaded free from the web, and many of these are listed in the postings above. Our technical section tries to provide information that cannot be readily obtained elsewhere, whether it be manual excerpts, diagrams, specific advice or suggested courses of action.
For a quicker response, please would club members make requests direct to me , not through the forum.
Thanks,
Tim
Big thanks Quercus and Sierra Tango - I just downloaded that material from manualmadness.com too. I found that, once unzipped, if I highlighted all 360-odd pages at once, I only needed to type the password 'manualmadness.com' once and all pages opened. I then imported them into an image/photo editor (Picasa in my case). This let me view all the pages and print the whole lot in one go.
I just happened to have a stack of pre-drilled 3-hole ring-binder paper in the printer - and Boom! Almost Free manual. The finished doc is big - fully 1.5" thick. $10 bucks for the right ring binder and I am done. Thanks guys - I've been looking for ages and must have clicked my way down every dead-end manuals for free link on the web.
Awesome!!
Good morning.
A good one for me as like Woolls in this chain, I've been searching for a 463 service manual for ages. I got one of a CD from the States which had sections missing, but finally also stumbled across the Manual Madness site.
I finally downloaded the 342 pages, but have converted to a PDF so please feel free to download off my dropbox. It is 600MB, so you need somewhere to put it.......Dropbox at > https://www.dropbox.com/s/nddbn593pefqmk7/SERVICE%20MANUAL_Mercedes_Benz_G_Wagon_463_Service_Repair_Manual.pdf?dl=0 <
I'll send the link to the Website Administrator too.
But I STILL have a quest that I haven't resolved. The manual doesn't have the technical data such as torque for head re-tightening, timing chain tensions [and advice about the guides] as well as things like tappet clearance, etc, etc - I got the attached 3 pages from a garage in the Netherlands, but this is apparently an absolute "No, No" for Mercedes to give out to "punters".... Is there ANYWHERE on this forum or elsewhere that I can find this type of info?? I'm also looking for front seat covers, which I understand are pull-over and then the base plastic part is shrunk to fit... But the seats are the least of my worries.
Any help welcome. I'm doing and getting help with a bit of an engine rejuvenation on my 300 GEL. It is on only 200,000 miles since it's days as a demo model at Milton Keynes. Registered November 1991.
P.S. If you come across this post in years to come and my Dropbox link is down, please feel free call me on the Dutch or UK phone. NL +31 68 447 0747 / UK +44 7770 623 755
Thanks again for this great site to all who contribute!
Best wishes
Alastair.
PM me with your chassis number and the data / info you need and i will see if i can help a fellow red banner wearer ;)

If its helpful, I've got the full workshop manuals for my 290GD, which is a 461. I'm afraid they are hard copy, though.
Hi
does anybody possibly have got a service technical manual for 270 CDI?
regards,
kris
These can no longer been downloaded....
Somebody must have realized that this could be downloaded by anyone and stopped it!
Cheers,
