Free heated windscreen

This year I finally took advice from this list and in mid November removed the rubber strip at the rear of the engine compartment that seals to the hood.

Holy cow what a difference! We've already had some nasty freezing sleet and snow and the warm air coming out of the engine compartment not only kept my wipers from freezing up like they used to do, but would actually keep the lower 1/3 of the windshield nearly DRY from the heat that was blowing out there.

Very nice idea. If I remember right, Dutch may have posted it, maybe from Vinther's site. I don't know but whoever did, I say thanks a million for safer and more enjoyable winter driving.

J. having just had a long Mway drive on well salted roads I perceive another problem.
I had my screen demister turned on and the heat turned up, the salt dried very quickly on the screen and was a bugger to wash off, I turned off the demist left my wipers on intermittant wipe and it was an altogether different experience.

Great idea. Just done this mod in preparation for the forthcoming Estonian winter which will certainly put it to the test. They had -33 degrees C last year, I'm told. Not sure it will help much on the 10 mile school run. But anything is worth a try. At least I don't have to park it outside.
